Meanwhile in sports news…

I have to applaud textile manufacturers on designing a pair of pants that can withstand what appears to be critical pressure on the seams. The only other time I have seen a pair of jeans under that kind of stress is last summer when I tried to slip into that Jordache number I used to stride around with in middle school.

Blast from the Past–Bad Ass

This has a few too many parallels to this:

“We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold…”

Do your job Mr. President.

“Foreigners cause crime, foreigners are the root of drug problems, foreigners are breaking down our pristine morals”…hmmmm where have I heard that before? Oh yeah…every single day living in Korea!

Obama calls for civility in political discourse

As I heard on the news, the open borders protest in Boston was to bring attention to the need of limiting the number of Irish allowed to live there. There are about 500 non-Irish in Boston, but 200 of them were wearing T-shirts and/or buttons that day that exclaimed “Kiss me, I’m Irish”, so they weren’t allowed to attend.

Protesting on a Wednesday? Who was working? Immigrants?

Calling all white people

It reminds me of Borat…”What? In America, women can vote but a horse cannot?”

Coincidentally, on the radio on the way to work was a debate about adopting the Aussie “you are legally obligated to vote” policy. I’m all for it. You’re right, white dudes should go vote, and so should everyone else (even women)…

Searchlight or L.A.?

The US is in a shambles…What’s the matter ? You guys should break off into two countries where the two kinds of Americans (as you seem to self-define) can split apart and live along-side their leftist or right wing brethren. I have a feeling though that the worst thing that could happen to either group would be for them to get exactly what they want…imagine it.

As to the “fair and balanced” idea: would you agree that most people whining about biased media never or seldom make an effort to read/watch news from a variety of sources? I find it a bit ironic that, for example, someone listening to Limbaugh complain about the NY Times would conclude that the Times is a liberal rag, etc, without every having thumbed through it. Disciples of MSNBC never flip on FOX news to see what’s up, but are the first to condemn it…etc etc. There is plenty of information out there, if one cares to look for it.

Finally, to answer the question: I am really curious about the draw of Palin, as ostensibly, she seems like a female Columbo, who doesn’t seem to have a clue about things, but in the end, it all turns out fine for her. People seem to like her for whatever reason, and I am curious about that draw. Thus, Nevada it is. Furthermore, the right wing seems paralyzed with fear and anger, so I think that is the place to hang out and talk to people about what’s on their mind.

Fuzzy math

There may be a point in that article somewhere, but it should have been subtitled “Fuzzy Logic”

I like this:
“How can the budget office give a green light to a bill that commits the federal government to spending nearly $1 trillion more over the next 10 years”

Hasn’t the cost of the Iraq war been about 900 billion since 2001? Who is footing the bill? Clearly this can not be about money.

“Congress would spend a lot more; steal funds from education, Social Security and long-term care to cover the gap; and promise that future Congresses will make up for it by taxing more and spending less.”
Does this mean that that pesky 900 billion spent on war was ear-marked for education, social security, etc. as well?

Fuck, if I were an American, I would be pissed off at the wild government spending that is totally leaching away at my hard earned money. The funny thing is that people are more concerned with the kind of leach than the fact they are getting bled dry.

Hiatis

John…you’ll have no problem getting into Canada now…you just have to know how to talk to these people.
When the Canadian border guards ask you “Where are ye off to then, b’y” Rather than saying, “huh” like most Migukins, who invariably get told to “Just get the hell out of here then”, you say this catch phrase that always works: “I’m taking these two 40’s of duty free Wisers Deluxe over to the Goat’s place to watch the game” and the border guards will probably hand you a bag of herbs that they confiscated off of one of those “huh” people, and say something like, “Tell him we said ‘howsitgoingeh?'” as they raise the arm to let you drive through.

The last word on climate change

The way I see it, the climate is getting warmer, or it isn’t getting warmer, and it doesn’t really matter what people say about it. I especially laughed at the most recent arguments for and against global warming a) It snowed a lot in the the US, so global warming is false; and b) the ski hills needed man made snow for the Olympics because global warming melted all the natural snow

I guess the weather only matters in North America

Boot up our butt

Didn’t we have this discussion with Alistair at our farewell BBQ? As I recall, he felt this was a good strategy, no?

In talking to a few soft tip players about said tactics, with the limited number of rounds that soft tip machines allow during cricket, it is not an offside strategy to go after points, even when it is not “necessary” in order to keep the lead. This is a strategy often adopted by our Korean brothers who cut their teeth playing cricket in this manner. All things being equal though, any darts that don’t take you one step closer to ending the game are wasted, which should leave the opponent with a chance to catch up / win in the long run. Thus, I say get Yeob to bring you over a tequila next time, and then proceed to kick some ass!!!!

For my Canadian friends…

Absolutely. We all know that the only proper way to debate delicate matters of politics is with meat on a BBQ and a few green bottles on the table.

I must say that a few pints and darts with you chaps on a Monday night was a much better way to kick off the week than my current routine of doing neither of those things on a Monday night. Not a bad way to get the weekend rolling either.

Come on John, you know that is too far fetched…any Canadian worth his salt would just ask if there is any beer, ask the hockey scores, then be satisfied.

Surely you jest in trying to have us believe that an American would object to long winded laments on the frailties of political matters.

Pounded

1-2-3 Blue Bulls!
Wish we were there to get into the mix. Sounds like you are shooting the lights out, even if the results aren’t in your favour in the win column…yet.

Snow day!

I remember a similar snowfall there in maybe 2001 or 2002 on Valentine’s Day. I was heading out for the evening, took two steps out of my apartment, then went barrel-rolling down a flight of stairs covered in ice and snow, bruising my elbow and my pride. I managed to avoid breaking my bottle of booze, but the shot glasses I had in my coat pockets were shattered.
I do believe that we spent the rest of the evening sitting in a second floor pub in Edae watching high heeled lasses navigate sidewalks like doe-eyed bambis. Good comedy. I suggest you get yourself comfortably in a window seat with a gullet warming pint of beer or 7 and do the same.

What are they afraid of?

Ha! I just took a look at that link to see if there was any response to Goat’s spanking he gave Jacob, and surprisingly (or not) Goat’s comment was deleted.

Blue Frog

I didn’t know they had dancing at Blue Frog. I’m going to get in there and cut a rug this weekend.

A fond farewell

Thank you John…That was a great time. I’m glad that the smorgasord of goodies is immortalized in pictures. A fine meal indeed. I think it is the understatement of the year to say that we are going to miss you guys, and that certainly life in Korea was a hell of a lot of fun because of the Blue Bulls and the rest of our friends and competitors in the SIDL.

From the Korean history channel

Did you somehow sneak a camera into one of my classes? It reminded me of this old gem that pushed me to the edge of my breaking point
