Bloody Tuesday

I’m not surprised you took a break from the hiking for some cinnamon toast, John. It seems I’ve started breaking down recently. It’s like once I crossed 40 my body’s all yer a wizard an old man, ‘Arry! My formerly gimpy side has started to hurt again when I walk; something in the meat of my quad muscle really hurts after walking for 40+ minutes; both my (c)ankles ache and throb, to such a degree I practically have to tiptoe slowly after resting for a minute because it feels like I’m going to rip/break something. Worst of all I’m getting really bad lower back pain; years of bad posture slouching at office jobs and at home in front of the computer are catching up with me. I noticed I have a pronounced slouch now when standing; I thought I was standing straight but I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and my shoulders are slumped and spine slowly morphing into an s-shape. Getting up out of a seating position and/or forcing myself to stand tall produces shooting pains in my lower back. Mom always used to chide me, in my youth, that I should sit up straight.

As for Baby Reindeer, I’m like halfway through and enjoying it far more than I thought I would. Donny’s comment about Martha monologuing – and telling stories about people in her life without any context or explanation – reminded me of an ex.

A day at the Hash

No shade to you, John, but I don’t understand how “social media envy” became a thing. Like, there’s billionaires in the world, multi-millionaires, people who live lives I can never hope to have for myself; I’m perpetually circling the drain of homelessness or minimum wage drudgery and I don’t really get bitter about it. I see people posting pictures of overseas holidays, new homes bought, happy families, paintball excursions in the Balkans, fun dates with beautiful girlfriends, premium PC rigs built etc. on Facebook or Instagram and I either just keep scrolling or think “well good for you.” Getting bent out of shape isn’t going to change the fact I have none of those things, and likely never will.

The plain fact of the matter is we don’t see the bad shit going on in people’s lives. Maybe I made some people envious by posting my Disney holiday pics last year, but they don’t know I’ve been near-homeless or that I need a few stiff drinks before approaching women or going out to buy groceries.

Sweet San Isidro

Also resist the temptation to say anything just because you’re on a dry spell. Don’t bother telling people you’re a recovering alcoholic, you’re in the process of quitting for good, you’re on the “straight and narrow” for now etc. mfckers will always be watching you, looking for you to slip up. You being seen shitfaced at a company party is one thing; you being seen shitfaced at a company party after telling some blabbermouth you’re supposed to be sober is another.

If you get caught out at a work function, on a date, hanging out with friends/family etc. just say you’re not drinking right now for one vaguely legitimate reason or another; you’re driving later, these particular dick pills don’t work as well with alcohol and she charges by the minute, your girlfriend/wife (real or imagined) gets triggered by the smell of booze on your breath yada yada yada…
