Chili con carne

Might have to make me up some of that too!

I have always been partial to throwing a dollop of sour cream in with the chili along with either fresh or pickled jalapeño peppers.

Yup. Making it next weekend for sure now.

Top Ten Korean Movies

Wife and I always did one and one on DVD night – one English and one Korean – so I have seen a lot of em.

I found most of them to be quite watchable and they passed the time well. Nothing was really profound but I hardly expect that from any movie I see regardless of where it is made.

Some of my favorites have been dumb, schlockey comedies with exaggerated characters – and there are no shortage of those!

I am looking around here to find a place the sells them for this dvd code for my wife to enjoy on movie nights once again.

Korean TV on the other hand….

Better late than never

Good on ya buddy…

The smoking thing gets easier and easier as the days go by. My big thing for that was the mornings after a bender/smoke fest – what a difference.

Keep it up. I am on the same trip for exercise and eating better. Having good luck with the eating – got a good cookbook and the stuff in it is healthy and *gasp* good!

Opening night blues

Find the joy…I let other crap get into my head and look what happened…I ended up in Canada!

Looking back, Monday nights were THE nights to enjoy. Play the board, drink some beer, and the results will come.

Merry Christmas to all!

Merry Christmas to you too John. Liking being with family and stuff here but miss the simplicity of Christmas in Seoul.

Cheers.

100 reasons not to believe in AGW

Interesting stuff.

As I mentioned on that other place before I was gagged, cuffed, and put away for being a heretic, the science is not all that important.

Game theory is!

It’s all good John…all we have to do is drink beer.

On the way we can burn tires and dump dirty engine oil into random lakes and rivers.

Regarding Itaewon

I agree with you John!

I used to be (circa 2002) a part of the “Itaewon is a dump” crowd – and in hindsight there was no real reason for it as I never bothered going. Among the foreign residents, some people seemed to carry this notion like an achievement badge or something silly like that.

This carried on until I discovered the darting community and bars in the ‘twan. It was at this point that I rediscovered Itaewon for the first time. Nice eateries were popping up all over the place with patios and very well done interiors. As you mentioned, the alley behind the Hamilton now has a fantastic collection of places that offer amazing choices – something that is quite difficult to find in Korea.

In regards to the bars, the days of the smoke filled, dirty, poorly lit dives (not that there is anything wrong with that!) are coming to an end. Many have remodeled and now offer smoke filled, well lit, and well decorated places to enjoy a drink or two. With their success, I am sure that others will continue to follow suit.

Itaewon is remodeling itself – and for the better. Let the market continue to take it along its’ natural course as it seems to be very much on the right track.

As for the shady side? It is more localized and less “in your face” than in many (if not most) nightlife areas in Seoul (or even in Korea for that matter). It is easily avoidable (unless you are in the SIDL and have to play at that shithole called Friends).

Friends Bar

Hate that place. Shitty boards, terrible lighting, bad music, watered down drinks, etc etc.

Only place in the ‘twan where I could drink doubles all night and not feel a thing.

A glimpse into the future…

Basic is pretty good up here but that is where it ends. If somebody needs something beyond basic it gets a little rough.
