I was expecting the usual bullet hole in the forehead for that “assassinated president” look.

Brian,
I enjoy rowing machines when I have access to them. If I were to install some sort of cardio-related exercise equipment in my residence, it would undoubtedly be a rowing machine—a decent one with a stable seat, a good track to slide on, and a heavy flywheel to make each stroke of the “oars” an effort. Maybe like this one.
My next-favorite piece of cardio equipment would be an elliptical, which also engages the arms, even if it doesn’t really help you burn many more calories than if you were walking (only about 16% more). I can at least pretend to be cross-country skiing.

You guys’ calorie counters are pretty generous. I use MyFitnessPal to track my calories. I can’t vouch for how accurate it is, but it’s a bit strict. If I walk 140 minutes (around 11 or 12K distance), I get a result of 781 calories burned. That’s around 68 calories per kilometer, or 102 calories per mile, which is close to what I’ve heard: a hundred-ish calories per mile walked or jogged.
On the path I walk to Bundang, there are spray-painted distance markers on the ground that also list calories burned, and these markers indicate that you burn only 50 calories per kilometer. That sounds unnaturally round-numbered yet fairly realistic to me.
To burn a ton of calories in a short time, you have to engage in intense cardio exercise, like jumping rope. This source suggests you can burn over 300 calories by swimming a kilometer (or about 480 calories per mile). That also makes sense, given that swimming is a whole-body exercise.
Meanwhile, for those of us who prefer to live life at an easier pace, walking seems to work best. Stair-climbing, alas, doesn’t seem to burn too many calories, despite being intense. A building in Yeouido, where I used to work, had a sign saying you can burn about 2 calories per floor climbed. For me, then, climbing 26 floors would mean only about 52 calories.
Anyway, that’s the view from my corner.

PRESSED the wrong button.
Damn auto-correct.

Thought I left a comment here, but maybe I passed the wrong button.

I haven’t heard of a face-shield requirement here in Korea, so it definitely sucks to be you.
What would make that first picture truly horrifying is if the two kids are actually brother and sister.
Yeah, that Wimpy Burger looked like a joke. Make your own! You don’t need a meat grinder such as what I have; you can use a food processor (with some ice cubes thrown in to keep the meat from heating up) to make perfectly decent ground beef.

Maybe the achievement of your life should be a compilation of your misadventures in book form. Sell it for cheap as an ebook: $0.99. Make a little side cash that way. Find a good editor to help out with those commas and other punctuation marks. Give the thing a catchy title, just not Pussy I’ve Known. That’s too Tucker Max. Something more subtle, like Holes I’ve Dug.

I see why Bukowski appeals to you.
But there are happily married expats in the PI. How do they make it work?

It’s always fun just to call out “any of your girls like penis?”
I’m remembering a similar joke in “Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls”:
Ace is in an airplane, on his way to Africa. A flight attendant comes up to him, and he mishears her:
“Penis?”
“Yes, I have one right here,” says Ace, “It’s bulky, but I consider it carry-on.”
“Peanuts,” the flight attendant says, with an unpleasant look on her face.
Would such humor work today, or would it be considered too… assaultive?

Sorry to read about the loss. Better luck next time! I suppose 2 p.m. is a bit too early to be imbibing any aiming fluid, eh?

This sounds more as if you’re coming down from a lot of drama, not ramping up, so… as long as you’re not experiencing “post-dramatic stress disorder,” it’s all good. You’re sorting out your life.
That’s shocking news about Maris and the Kitchenette. She seemed as if she were running the place pretty well, and after all those dirty “leave it to me” looks she gave you, I thought she was feeling pretty territorial about her new place. But no, as it turns out: she’s already ready to bag. What a shame. I can’t fault you for trying to help her out at the beginning, though; she seemed pretty determined at the time. There was no way to predict she’d flake out like this. Is she done with entrepreneurship for good, or is she moving on to another project and expecting more cash to help her out?
Such is life sometimes. Good luck with darts.

Bars of Barretto: Whiskey Girl (Updated September 6, 2022)
I will avoid this place next time I’m in town.

In the picture captioned “Making our way through the burning valley,” it looks as if smoke is pouring out of the carabao’s ass. I love it.
Happy 28th! And many happy returns.

That would be just my luck.

Might’ve been only 4K, but it seems to have been an adventure. And, my God—who is that black-clad Amazon in the first photo (right half of the picture)? Full head of luscious hair, bikini top, looks like a Filipina Lara Croft who should have her own movie?

Too bad it didn’t work out. Better luck next time, and good luck Hashing with the Angeles City folk.

Congrats on the win. Nice to know you can fight your way out of the losers’ bracket. Good luck with what appears to be a very healthy-looking 43-year-old.

Bars of Barretto: Out Back Billabong
Looks appealing and comfortable. I saw that they spell it “Out Back” and “Out-back,” but not “Outback.” Strange.

Impressive falls, for sure. Thanks for the tour.

So the bar’s name is Hideaway, but judging by the signage, the name really ought to be Sports Bar.

On his radio show, G. Gordon Liddy used to say, “I don’t own any guns, but Mrs. Liddy has a rather impressive gun collection.”
Uh-huh.
Call the situation whatever you like, I guess, but it doesn’t change the reality of what’s going on. Again: would any of this happen without money to grease the wheels?
If you’re avoiding the “p” word so you don’t end up on some sort of list, then I apologize for my comment, and you’re free to delete it to make yourself a bit less searchable (although I’m pretty sure I’ve made comments to this effect before, so you may have to comb through your blog and delete several of my comments). I certainly don’t want to “out” or “doxx” you.

…trying to create a win-win situation that doesn’t equate to prostitution
Dude. Just call it what it is. If she’s being paid for sex, she’s a prostitute. To be clear, I don’t judge the use of prostitutes at all (in fact, I’d like to see prostitution widely legalized), but I sense you have a hang-up about labels, and I’m here to tell you that the labels don’t change the reality, so you may as well use accurate labels. No need to engage in legalistic hair-splitting. She’s a ho, you want sex, she wants money (does any of this work without money?), and it’s really that simple. And dignity? Well, if she’s willing to rent her body for sex, the issue of dignity is, at best, an open question. So just own it, I say. You’re bangin’ hos, and that’s fine as long as no one’s getting hurt.

It’d be nice if you could just stop being so horny (imagine the money you could save!), but that’s not gonna work. Heh. Remember how Tyrion Lannister said he wanted to die?
“In my own bed, at the age of 80, with a belly full of wine and a girl’s mouth around my cock.”

Looks to have been a good walk. That descent will wake you up, though!
Mick Jaggar and Keth Richards
Just stare at that a while.

Bars of Barretto: Queen Victoria
A nice darts setup, the only downside being the CR is in the corner on the left.
I must’ve missed something. What’s a CR? A bathroom?
Yeah, I’m not a fan of live bands if that means you have to shout to be heard, and that’s usually the case with live bands.

Those pancakes or crêpes?
A little titty-butter never hurt anyone, right?
Good (belated) luck with the Hash. Walk hard.

Redz sounds like a loser place. I can see why you don’t frequent it.

Within the bar universe, you have what I call regular bars. Just a place to go and have a drink, chat with friends, listen to music, or whatever else eases your mind, including the attentions of a lovely bar girl.
I assume the lovely bar girl doesn’t offer her attention for free.
Is there any sort of bar where you can just go and have a drink without any sort of pressure to help a lady out, or is parasitism just part and parcel of bar life in the PI? It sounds as if even the so-called “regular” bars feature (paid?) female companionship. For the guy who wants to just drink and be left the hell alone, is there nothing?
» Posted By Kevin Kim On 17/October/2021 @ 5:22 pm
I’m chiming in a bit late, but yes, I’d be interested in learning more about the local bars. It rounds out my mental picture of your life in the PI.
Good to know you’re feeling better.

«« Back To Stats Page“touch myself/have a stroke”
I’m reminded of the old joke:
“Mr. Mouse, you can’t divorce your wife Minnie just because you suspect she’s stupid.”
“Your Honor, I didn’t say she was stupid; I said she was fucking Goofy!”That I have no compunction to inhale nicotine seems bizarre.
I assume you mean “compulsion.” A compunction is a sense of hesitancy, usually rooted in one’s conscience. A synonym is qualm(s).
Jack had no compunctions about shooting his mother.
Sorry to hear about the relapse. Good luck as you make the effort to quit vaping!
