It looks like Leaking Willy is huffing his way up, too…
I think that’s the first time I’ve seen the name “Leaking Willy” on your blog. Is he a new… member? Oh—I see from searching your blog that he’s been mentioned quite a few times before. Sorry for the senility.
Does Leaking Willy know Dripping Pussy?
And sorry to hear about continued difficulties with hills. Can anything be done?
Enjoy the rain. Monsoon season for us generally starts in July and ends sometime in August. I’m looking forward to late September, but we’ve got to get through the hottest part of summer first, and it’s only June.

Kev, the Alta Vista Clubhouse is not well-maintained. It is dirty, has holes in the ceiling, and needs paint. It offers no food and beverage service. The pool is okay, and there are basketball and tennis courts. Otherwise, it is completely useless.
Ugh. Sounds awful. A “clubhouse” in name only. Can you agitate for new management?

The Alta Vista Clubhouse is a disappointment, especially when compared to Club Morocco.
In what way is it disappointing? Just by being too small? Or does it lack crucial facilities? Or is it just devoid of that energetic vibe?
This one called out, “what about me?” so Swan hurried back to satisfy her craving.
Called out in English?
Turkey time
Looks like a domestic Tom in front, and a wild turkey half-hidden behind.
Nice to see you again!
Dawg is giving off Snoopy vibes. How’re your fellers doing?
Puddles are the new norm, but I ain’t complainin’. Yet. It is definitely cooler these days.
They keep you on your toes and pull you out of your rut. See how painful such puns are??
I did the beef enchiladas. Three big ones. Spicy, but good.
Finally, someone who gives you more than one!
Food for thought
You never see that in Korea! Nothing but Kansas flatlands here, both front and back. There are rare exceptions, though.
Have yourself a merry little Hashing.

re: video
Nice shots! In editing the video, he used every type of “wipe” transition in the book, giving the video a slightly Star Wars-y feel. The musical track was pleasant in an easy-listening, elevator-music sort of way—better than the obnoxious dance music that so many video editors seem to prefer.

My blog’s new masthead.
Did you Photoshop your banner, or did someone else do it for you?
It’s easy to get mixed up when you cook
That’s the moment someone’s gotta pipe up and say, “Dat boy don’t got no sense.”
Hey, Thompson, are you okay?
His comments are hundreds of words in length, so maybe the candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long…? If you want staying power and/or consistency, you have to pace yourself!
Maybe he’s finally cleaning up his beshitted bed. I can relate.
Enjoy Pujon Corner.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that the subdivision developer, Sta Lucia Homes, is the same company that created Alta Vista.
Ah—so Club Morocco is a subdivision. I was wondering about the “vacant streets” of Club Morocco. It’s also the name of a resort, though, yes?
And a bit of trivia: Santa Lucia has her day on December 13.
Mike, who lives in Club Morocco drove down and picked us up there.
Spot the error! I confess that this is an error that I make frequently.
It is not so conveniently located, though, with access by a narrow dirt road.
Maybe that’s the way the rich people like it.
Interestingly, despite a nearly empty subdivision, more development is taking place out here.
Do you guys have the same sort of squatter problem they’ve recently been complaining about in the US?
Low bridge
Looks almost like a small Ent standing guard.
I’ve seen it countless times on hikes, where folks toss their trash in the river with impunity, and it winds up in the bay and then on the beach.
Yes, very sad. So what’s the plan?
Roast chicken and potatoes with some sprouts and broccoli were served for dinner last night at The Rite Spot.
I like how the chicken has that exploded look, as if an alien had leaped out of it.
An oldie but a goodie
Damn. I was sure the punchline would have something to do with blowjobs.
Have fun at Treasure Island.

I had to remove the onion so it would fit in my mouth.
Good man. (And that’s what SHE said!)
Swan enjoyed her pork tonkatsu, whatever the hell that is.
Koreans call it donggaseu, with the don meaning “pork.” Basically, it’s an Asian Schnitzel. Fried cutlet. Generally seen in Asia in the form of pork, beef, chicken, or fish. Sometimes, it arrives already sliced up, as in that photo. Sometimes, it arrives whole, and you have to cut it up yourself. Often, it comes slathered in some sort of sauce or gravy.
I’m not a mac and cheese fan
Dafuq is wrong with you?
Yeah, I know the reality is so bad made up shit like this is unnecessary. Still, I couldn’t resist.
Never show that one to “mama.”
Five years ago, I explored how I might look if I changed my pronouns—probably not a good idea.
See what I mean about your inner liberal?
I suppose it’s tuition in the school of experience. So, heed her words to the wise.
You can save yourself a ton of heartache by having the wisdom to see certain problems from a distance and by practicing simple common sense. 90% of Pinay-gringo encounters send up red flags or sound alarm bells in my head, usually because the male idiot is thinking with his dick. You can avoid all of that by saying no and not allowing your ego to be seduced by a woman who knows what she’s doing and sees you purely as an aging ATM. Unless you really do want to follow the implicit advice from that Hunter Thompson quote you put up yesterday.
Sorry, I’m not drunk enough to get this one.
You know that song, “Joy to the World”? See here.
I’m glad you had a good date with Swan. Too bad the day started out poorly. If you see the beggar again, do apologize. How’s the breathing now, if I may ask?
» Posted By Kevin Kim On 21/June/2024 @ 10:08 pm
I guess I haven’t always hated karaoke like I do now.
It was preparation for living in Asia. And from what I gather, you only hate it now when others are singing.
Enjoy your date with Swan!

The real comma question is whether the Oxford comma is useful. The Oxford comma comes right before the “and” in a three-item list:
A, B, and C
Happy Don, Slappy Barack, and Crappy JoeMany people consider this comma optional:
A, B and C
Happy Don, Slappy Barack and Crappy JoeBut as I point out in the above-linked blog post—
I’d like to thank my parents, God and Satan.
—causes clarity problems. Are your parents God and Satan? An Oxford comma would make the situation clearer:
I’d like to thank my parents, God, and Satan.
So: I advocate for the Oxford comma because it’s useful for clarity.

Hard to believe I moved to the left sphere on the spectrum. There ain’t a lefty I know of I’d consider supporting, so they must all be off the charts.
Dude, your inner leftie comes out in all sorts of ways. It’s your default setting. I half-joke about it on occasion. Consider your history: young hippie, worked with the letter carriers (Democrats to the core), went on to years of government work, currently on a government pension, a big softie about Pinay women and their life-choices. No way you’re a full-on rightie, even if you pay lip service to rightie talking points. Your blog reflects the truth that you’re a left-of-center centrist.

Harder than it looks
When I’m puffing up a hill, I often think to myself how nice it must be to be small, short, and skinny: your center of gravity is low, there isn’t much of you to heave up the mountainside, and you’re less prone to being out of breath.
And 25
Oho! Just a hint of a unibrow!
I seem to have more lids than bowls these days…
A lid for a coffin, eh? Just burn me and scatter me, I say. Or like in the film Captain Fantastic, dump me down a toilet.
Glad you made it up the hill.

Food looks good!
Another regular stop
That house looks more solid than what you usually see out in the boonies. Do you know the story of the place?
We were a working-class family, so our vacations were always camping trips.
I bet it was real camping and not the nonsense the idle rich engage in.
My first big camping trip that involved “roughing it” was with my best buddy Mike back when we were in high school. In Shenandoah National Park, you had to tell the ranger office what your camping/hiking route was. Mike and I decided to forgo the tent and just use a tarp and nylon cord for shelter. A ranger came by the following morning, checking up on us, and he declared we’d done a bang-up job of setting up camp: tarp hung correctly, proper distance from the creek, etc. I’ll always remember that trip with fondness. In my mind, the trail we hiked was several miles long, but in reality, it was a loop that probably wasn’t that long. Still—an experience.
I hope the Hash went well for both you and your lungs.

In French, “miel” means honey.
That was a lot of cakes. I hope everyone got a slice.

I thought the idea was to be gone before she gets old.
Have fun with Swan today.

When the sun hit the clouds, it was red.
Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in morning, sailors take warning.
Sunday is Swan’s 40th birthday.
An early Happy Birthday to the lady, then!
Menudo on the stove.
I might not like the liver-y bits, but the soup broth itself, poured over rice, would likely be awesome. Not so keen on the igado, but there too… awesome broth.
I, of course, contributed a crockpot of chili to the effort
Chili looks oniony but good.
re: that Joey Chestnut meme
You heard he got banned from a Nathan’s hot-dog-eating contest because he recently shilled for vegan franks? Why would he tank his own reputation like that? I guess the question answers itself: money.
re: little Johnny
Little Johnny was wise beyond his years.
Sorry to read that that ridge was an ass-kicker, but what’s life without a little adversity? I hope Swan’s enjoying her celebration. I guess in American culture, turning 40 is more of a time of mourning and denial. Even if you don’t end up having any expat friends to talk with, I hope you get to know Swan’s people better.

We both ordered the enchilada supreme
Looks good, but as always: only one?
In the Mojave Desert with my brothers circa 1960.
Almost every time you put up that pic, you never label which one is you. I think you labeled the pic once, maybe twice, but I forget who’s who. You’d think the names of the kids in the pic would be the most important fact to convey… but perhaps you’re just going for a feeling, a vibe. Or you expect us to figure out who’s who on our own. After all, I’m sure it’s obvious to you.
I really loved my Korean life.
But based on what you’ve repeatedly said, you didn’t appreciate that life while you had it because you were too focused on this or that problem. So: did you really love your Korean life?
Die, Anna!
Dark humor’s not your usual style. Interesting.
I’m glad you had a good date. Do your best to keep this lady.

It wasn’t easy, but I got it done this time.
Congrats on rockin’ the Rock!
Almost to the top
So this wasn’t that 45-degree ascent?
I don’t know the bar business[,] and I understand the premise of drink quotas as a means of motivating the girls, but it still makes me sad somehow.
That’s your inner liberal talking.
Nice to see some recognition of the USA’s role in liberating the nation.
That’s more generous than what happens in South Korea on August 15, or Liberation Day. Speeches are given, but no one thanks the States. Politicians just pretend that Koreans somehow just liberated themselves.
Hopefully, someone will come along soon and make America great again.
“I’m your dingleberry” is a satirical reference to the cowboy movie Tombstone, in which Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer, pre-cancer) says, “I’m your huckleberry.” I’ve heard that’s a good movie. I should watch and review it.
…she simply responded, “It’s not yours.” Ouch.
Tough life. Live and learn.
All in all, it looks to have been a good day. As for the guy getting electrocuted for his bad puns… good. Puns should have some wit behind them.

re: those ATMs
Why is a simple ATM withdrawal so damn difficult there? We’re pampered here in Korea, I guess. Unless you’re a tourist here, and searching for a “global” ATM that’s actually global. Most ATMs here don’t work well with non-Korean cards. I’m a resident with a Korean bank account, and I have plenty of money in the bank, so that’s not an issue for me. The PI would drive me crazy.
re: that poem
That’s the poem all the ladies march to, I’m sure.
And yes, I finally found a good one.
Do you think she’s making you a better person? If yes, in what ways would you say you’ve improved?

I in-vested three hundred with the Hash
Congrats on 300! And nice merch to go with the occasion. They call it a “run,” but it’s more like a sweaty lurch for most of you.
My table mates, Gasman and 18 Kilo Ass.
Good to see 18-Kilo Ass again. In that lighting, the other guy looks like a raccoon. Or a boxer who took a shot to each eye.
I never wheeze when standing or sitting, so I figured avoiding lying flat in bed might help. It worked!
I did that for both of my COVID bouts, but I discovered, with my own most recent breathing problems, that difficulty breathing while lying flat can be a sign of heart failure. I doubt that’s what’s up with you, but have you been checked for things like your ejection fraction (heart’s pumping strength)?
Ain’t that the shits?
That joke’s been around since forever. I recall it as a Bob Dole thing when people were picking on him for being so old.
This breathing issue keeps coming back. Could it be Ye Olde COPD? I wish scientists would develop hearts and lungs out of advanced nanomaterials, organs that could last forever and would never be rejected by the body.
Have you seen those freaky continuous-flow artificial hearts? Patients who receive them have no pulse because the heart doesn’t beat.

I hope the candy route isn’t becoming a problem, and that this isn’t evolving into a “no good deed goes unpunished” situation. You’re giving out bags and bags of candy every week now. Is it starting to become too much? And if so, what can be done? That’s a ton of kids coming out every week. No surprise, I guess, in a Catholic country where being fruitful and multiplying is encouraged. I can’t imagine the PI suffering the same sort of demographic crisis currently plaguing Japan, China, and South Korea.

re: carabao
A hearty “get well soon!” to Low Libido and Auto Fellatio.
Carry a big, sharp knife and be ready to open the carabao’s throat if it insists on invading your space. Try to cut the thing’s carotid and jugular so it bleeds out fast, assuming you can pierce the leathery skin and saw through the tough internal tissue—tendons, blood vessels, trachea, etc. Or, you know, just run because you should never fuck with a large animal (and because it’s likely somebody’s property).
I’m glad your time at the Rite Spot went well. Food looks good. That name, though… “rite spot” makes me think you’re performing human sacrifices up there on that roof.
Meanwhile, please keep calm and try anal.

A productive and satisfactory meeting that lasted a little over an hour.
It’s not that often that one hears the adjectives “productive” and “satisfactory” attached to the noun “meeting.” I normally do what I can to avoid meetings unless I’m absolutely required to be there. I guess your meeting was a rare exception!
…and we went on and on into the night. I finally called it quits a little after 8 p.m. …
There’s another collocation that you never hear: “into the night” and “a little after 8 p.m.” I’d call 8 p.m. “a bit past evening.”
But doing the math in my sober head today, I’m thinking someone made a mistake. Well, I did by not being more vigilant, but things just don’t add up. Anyway, lesson learned. I hope.
Unheard of! Someone taking advantage of someone else’s blunted state of consciousness! A good reason not to get drunk. Rule #1 doesn’t just apply to women, and it’s doubly in force when you’re sauced.
I can’t remember if I posted this before, but it seems relevant as more and more truth about the scamdemic comes to light.
You seen all that nonsense from Fauci at the hearings? He’s a real POS. I’ll be putting up a video about him soon. If the GOP had any balls, Fauci’d be suffering consequences. At best, there’ll be a strongly worded letter, and Fauci will die peacefully in his bed instead of hanging from a gibbet.

I’ve lost my sense of smell, but they look pretty
Normally, when you lose your sense of smell, you also lose the ability to taste. So how’s that going?
…but Swan said she had told the owner of the new disco in town that we would attend a special event there last night.
You okay with being shanghaied like that? Could be why I’m still single: I wouldn’t want my lady to speak for me unless we’d discussed the matter first. Maybe I’m just a difficult asshole.
but this is a venture undertaken by the Snackbar owner.
So it’s definitely spelled “Snackbar” and not “Snack Bar”? Branding matters.
re: proper flotation device
Alas, I have my own flotation devices.
I don’t get this one. Do you?
I’d guess that, instead of a bus pass, it was a month-long sex pass. Enjoy the ride!
re: “Take On Me”
Austin Butler! What’re you doing there? (If needed, visit my blog and type “Austin Butler” in my search window to remind yourself of who he is.)
Or watch Austin here. But he first starred in “Elvis,” where he looked more like the a-ha guy. (Or more precisely, the a-ha guy looked like Elvis.)
And: one of many, many a-ha parodies.

No, my pronouns won’t change, and I’m not sure what I’m transitioning to, but my epiphany last night was that I don’t enjoy the bars nearly as much as I used to.
And we elves on the sidelines cheer, with our squeaky voices, this coming sea change! If you need something to fill your time with, consider travel (with the Swanster), learning a new language (like Tagalog) or skill (like woodworking), other forms of exercise (I’d recommend light strength training), or doing something of service for the community (such as, ahem, picking up all those piles of trash!).
Tagalog resources:

LingoHut: Learn TagalogGet curious about your adoptive country! I hope you end up dropping the current time-wasting bar routine even if it does provide you with some amazing sunsets. Continue with the good stuff, like the walking and the candy distribution.

If you lack an umlaut option, add “e” after any vowel that would normally take an umlaut. “Fuhrer” -> “Fuehrer.”
But on a Windows machine, the “ü” character is ALT-0252. (Press and hold the ALT key while typing 0-2-5-2 with your keyboard’s number pad.) You can find alt-key code lists for all the weird letters online all over the place. On a Mac, press and hold the letter “u” until a little menu appears, then select “ü.”

There’s an election coming up, and Facebook is back to playing it’s censorship game.
Spot the error!
Heil Zuckerberg, mien Fuhrer!
In German, “ei” is pronounced “eye” while “ie” is pronounced “ee.” And “Führer” (“leader”) has an umlaut over the “u.”
mein Führer
Moving on…
Three years ago, I was walking a lot farther than I can these days. It’s scary how much I’ve lost.

Woody Guthrie song I’m thinking of is “This Land Is Your Land”
You know what we kiddies used to sing:
this land is my land
it shore ain’t your land
Ah got a shotgun
and you ain’t got one
you better git off
or Ah’ll blow yer heeeaaad off
yer standin’ on mah propertee(One of many, many versions.)
Soon enough, they won’t be allowed to ask anymore.
Or there’ll be an entire page filled with 600 checkboxes and the instructions “Check as many as apply.”
Happy Hare-ing.

We didn’t do the BBQ last night
A shame. Why on Earth not?
I enjoyed my [pulled-pork] sandwich. Those onion rings were also excellent
I could do without the onion rings. Sandwich looks good. Enchiladas, too.
It’s been a long time since I thought of my seven years as a letter carrier.
You guys and your Democrat-voting union. Richard P. O’Connell was head of that union, NALC (Nat’l. Assn. of Letter Carriers), back in the day. Loud, obnoxious, Mafia-sounding fuckhead. My mother had to put up with all sorts of shit while working in the national office at 1st and C Streets, by the Capitol.
Congrats on the results of your Dr. Jo visit.

I understand they are building a retaining wall on the river bank. Not sure what impact that will have a future boat crossing to/from Barretto
I thought I knew what a retaining wall was, but I looked it up, anyway. Turns out it’s for keeping soil and dirt from spreading laterally through the downward pressure of gravity. If that’s what it’s for, there should be no problem building gaps into the wall to allow people to come and go. It’s not like a sea wall, whose job is to keep the tide away from the land and prevent rapid erosion, and which can therefore have no gaps.
The old Hanjin shipyard in the distance will be the new home of the Hyundai shipbuilding company.
So maybe there’s a bona fide Koreatown in your future.
A narrow corridor between houses in Matain
Nice lighting effect!
Hanging out on the basketball court. At least it is shady there.
That one guy in slippers off to the right, with his red shirt pulled up and his gut hanging out, looks particularly fetching.
I’d hate to try and access this house once rainy season is in full swing.
You have to wonder how they handle routine flooding.
Swan was back at the barangay in San Isidro for the follow-up meeting with the vicious dogs’ owner. He was a no-show. Another summons will be issued for a meeting next week.
When do the police finally show up? Or will it be up to the locals to drag out their Negan baseball bats and exact some Lucille-style street justice?
Get yourself a mean, muscular pit bull and take it through that neighborhood.

«« Back To Stats PageThere were quite a few things on that menu I didn’t recognize. Some descriptions might help ignorant old fucks like me.
I wasn’t sure what remark you were addressing when you wrote that. For what it’s worth, I wasn’t remarking on the menu—I was commenting on what was written on the Kon Tiki roof. It says “Kon Tiki Ekahi.”
And now that we have smartphones, our own little God in a pocket, if there’s something we don’t know, we can just look it up. If we’re curious.
The sad thing is even if you did clean it up, it would all be back in just a matter of days. Most of the locals just don’t give a shit about litter. Once it is out their window, it is not their problem.
I addressed that in a previous comment: it just means that, once you engage in the battle, the battle never ends, which means you’ll always have a purpose to drive you.
