If the pain is on your left side, it’s probably not your appendix (right-side pain). It could still be a bowel thing, though. Hopefully something temporary, like gas that needs to be released.
The vertical Chinese and Korean both say “Lee Myeong-jae Goyak.” I’m not sure which “goyak” this is; it could be an ointment of some kind. Daeguowl could probably tell you more.

Sounds like poor service and unreliable hours of operation. I wouldn’t go back to either of those places. We have a lot of that nonsense here in Korea—usually at establishments that never post their hours of operation so that they can close early if they want instead of staying open for late customers. Display your operating schedule and commit to it, I say. And if you need to shorten your hours due to poor business, display that, too.

I should have noted that “turn-off” (hyphenated) is the noun form, but “turn off” (no hyphen) is the phrasal verb.

Yeah, I belatedly noticed my departure day was Palm Sunday—the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem. And a week later—nailed to the Holy Rood.
Tuna steak looks good. Probably not very filling, though.
Seven years ago, I was enjoying the signage during one of my hikes in Pyeongtaek.
The sign says, “For use (together) by pedestrians, bikes, and farm equipment.”

In Seoul, they announced the subway stations in both Hangeul and English.
The “geul” in “Hangeul” means “writing”; “hangeul” is the written form of the language. Generically, the language as a whole can be called “hangungmal” (often romanized as “hangukmal” at the expense of accurate pronunciation) or “hangugeo.”
If “hanguk” means “Korea(n),” then “mal” means “speech” while “eo” (pronounced “aw”) means “language.”

Brian has a point. But I know the reply is that you can get away with English in much of the Philippines. You shouldn’t be incurious, though: learning a language is learning a culture, and Swan would definitely appreciate that from her man. Try for five new words or phrases per week, and use them often to learn them. If the phrases are too long to deal with at first, break them into shorter units (Swan can help you judge what the units are), then string them together. Get curious.

Have you ever considered switching up the brownie thing by doing variations? Adding chocolate chips one week, adding different styles of frosting another week, adding nuts yet another week, or doing any combination of the above? We don’t want to get stuck in “a foolish consistency.” Next time, do frosted brownies with a caramel drizzle. I bet the ladies would rave.

It’s a sad thing for families to fall apart when someone goes off to live in a foreign country, but I bet that, in most cases, the “chasm” was merely revealed, not created, by the move. Extreme circumstance reveal all sorts of flaws and fissures in relationships that seem, on the surface, to be perfectly solid. I discovered this during Mom’s brain cancer. Crisis reveals character.
That bakery looks pretty damn tempting, and there’s none of the usual frou-frou bullshit you’d find in a Japanese or Korean bakery.
