I hear echoes of Groucho Marx in that reply.

The most likely suspect has fled the country…
Oh, phooey—your blog is light-years better than the crap shoveled by so, so many illiterates.
Round American butt, eh? I’m there, dude.

It’s all in the delivery, and the prof’s reply includes a glaring typo. D’oh!

BTW, “addenda” is plural. “Addendum” is singular.

Stick the “was” at the very end, and stop driving me nuts. Me nuts don’t like being driven.

You’re making fantastic progress, man. Congratulations yet again!

Continued good luck with la paperasse (French for “paperwork” or “red tape”). Perhaps all that anger will help you in your ongoing quest to shed those pounds! Does anger increase metabolic rate…?

Great work! A tiny slip like yours is barely a slip at all, so your slip ain’t showin’. Take some long walks, if you’re feeling that you need to compensate for any bad karma.

My own weight loss appears to have stagnated, and I’m taking a break from the diet this Easter weekend (making’ carby charoset!), so I really don’t expect good news at Monday’s weigh-in. But I’m pondering doing 9-mile walks (about 3 hours) every day until I go to Korea; trying to recapture “The Switzerland Formula.”

Congrats! What’s your exercise routine, pray tell?

The perfect gift for you’re favorite grammar nazi…
From a grammar Nazi’s perspective, what’s really interesting about that shirt is that the swastika is composed entirely of parts of speech instead of explicitly grammatical terms! Parts of speech represent the words, i.e., the building blocks of utterances, whereas grammar is, more precisely, the structure into which we insert those building blocks to make our utterances. (See here.)
It might have been better had the shirt sported terms like
•subject-verb agreement
•case (nominative, accusative, dative, genitive)
•mood
•word order
•tense
•indicative
•interrogative
•subjunctive
•conjugation
(etc.)Nice try, Shirt People!

“Bada-koggiri” is literally “sea elephant.” Hilarious name for a walrus (another name for which is “hae-ma,” or, confusingly for English speakers, “sea-horse”).
Congrats on the continued weight loss! May it continue! 220 isn’t that far away.

In the year of the bicentennial
Damn—lookit all those porn-star mustaches! And don’t take this the wrong way, but I never would’ve pegged you for a Tolkienite. Then again, with all that dart-throwing you do, you must be catering to your inner Legolas.

John,
It could simply be that you’re gaining muscle mass thanks to your exercise. Muscle is both leaner and heavier tissue than fat, which would account for the shrinking belt size and the slight weight gain.
I fear I may be in for a bit of weight gain myself when I do my weigh-in tomorrow, but I won’t have exercise on which to “blame” the gain.
Continued good luck! I’ve heard that how well your clothing fits you is actually a better metric of overall fitness than your weight. If that’s any reassurance.

Good luck, good luck, good luck to you. You’re probably right to start exercising immediately. My strategy, thus far, has been to try to lose weight and then start exercising.
I think 60 pounds in 6 months is a doable goal, although it’ll mean being brutally honest with yourself about those monthly weigh-ins.
Success!
