As for Dr. Pinker and his strange defenses: I have to side with Nathan Heller. Pinker has defended poor English on esoteric grounds before; Heller’s accusation that Pinker “fights pedantry with more pedantry” is on the money.

Yeah, I suspected a grammar-related post when I saw “very unique” in your title. I’d agree that the phrase makes no logical sense, which is why I avoid using it in my own writing (my prescriptivism), but I also bow to the fact that “very unique” is part of common usage (my descriptivism), so I don’t flinch when I hear it spoken.
No less an auspicious document than the US Constitution uses the phrase “in order to form a more perfect union.” “More perfect” makes no logical sense, either, since there are no degrees of “perfect,” but the unfortunate language is now, like it or not, enshrined in the anus of history. Annals, I mean.
Score one for descriptivism.

I always knew you were an awesome dude, but now I goddamn worship you. 13 episodes per day! That, sir, is a positively inhuman level of dedication. At roughly 44 minutes per episode, that comes out to about 9.5 solid hours of TV per day—possibly more if, say, the pilot episode was 88 minutes long.

You also sound a bit depressed. Good luck with job applications as you deal with your new normal. Any chance you might plan and execute a road trip to somewhere you’ve never been? Of course, more than a road trip, it sounds as though you need a good, steady routine to get your sleep pattern back in order. Again, good luck.

I’ve found Windex to be a much more effective mosquito-killer than F-Killer Blue Label. Windex kills almost everything that flies and has six legs. (I wish I could get hold of the old F-Killer White Label, with the red cap, because that stuff killed mosquitoes dead.)
Or you could get one of these babies.
