Todd, thank you for sharing your insights; wrong though they may be. Swan has a mind of her own and does as she pleases. One of the things I love about her is that most of the time, we are of the same mind. And on the rare occasion when our plans don’t align, we enjoy separate and guilt-free “me days.”
I also disagree with your assertion that a “lack of consideration” is “commendable.” But who am I to judge?

Thompson, well, as they say, you can’t take it with you, so spend it while you can. I have one more day in the month, and then I’ll assess my spending and determine what, if anything, needs to be adjusted. I don’t think my beer budget will be impacted.
I recently switched to alcohol-free mouthwash because I read that the alcohol kills the good bugs in your mouth that keep you healthy. But I don’t think I’d ever consider swallowing either version. At least around here, mouthwash isn’t any cheaper than most alcoholic beverages anyway.

Thompson, Jeepneys can be uncomfortable, but nothing like what you described going on in your mouth. I have had some dental issues over the years and I have a very low tolerance for pain. I would have had to be numbed up on Novocain and had a pro do the lancing for an abscess like that. Hope you didn’t swallow too much of the puss and goo!

Kev, it wasn’t really the titties that caught my eye (I see that every day in real life), but the headline saying the video would likely be deleted that sucked me in. And, of course, it was total bullshit–nothing controversial (and no titties, either). Yep, the future will be full of lies and fakery, I fear.
I’ve never been to a nude or topless beach, but I’ve always imagined there would be a lot you wouldn’t want to see. Although I guess you aren’t supposed to look, right?
I doubt we will use sweepers in Subic. A big difference is that we were out in the middle of nowhere in La Union. If you get lost in Subic, it’s not hard to return to civilization and catch a trike or Jeepney to your destination.
Yeah, I have much respect for those who keep on trying against all odds.

Kev, well, the docs have mentioned drinking less, to which I jokingly respond, “So, you’re telling me I’m going to die?” Beer is a part of who I am, and while I try not to over-indulge, I have no desire to give it up. Since I drink almost every day, an occasional malfunction is to be expected, I suppose. Or maybe I’m just comparing myself favorably to the drunken fools I see drinking a nine in the morning. I almost always stick to my 4 to 8pm window and have no desire to imbibe in the off hours.

Brian, Yep, different places and faces while I do the same thing is good enough. I haven’t checked to see what would be involved in getting Swan a tourist visa for Korea. I’m sure it could be done if and when I get off my lazy ass and make a plan.
Swan didn’t say much about the nude dancers. She did note that I was watching them very intently during the performance. She didn’t seem to have a problem with it.

Thompson, that was quite the adventure. And yes, getting shot was only one of the potential disasters you managed to avoid. Glad you lived to tell about it! I’ve walked through mud-sucking rice fields but somehow managed to keep my shoes. Maybe because I was sober.
So, this happened in Southern Cal then you moved to the Bay Area? And now you are in Tucson? Sounds like there are more stories to be told!
Sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whisky and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind but falling in love and not getting arrested.

Digory, Yep, made it Bauang safe and sound. Rode with a friend and his gal. As far as I know, we are the only Subic Hashers attending the La Union Hash today.
I don’t know about a San Juan, but San Fernando is right up the road. Bauang is a beach town, but not all that small. I’d say it’s Barretto-sized. I’ve been to the mountain city of Baguio several times. It’s a nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there. Too isolated for my taste.
I don’t really have the rice terraces on my bucket list, but you never know. I still haven’t made it to Bohol, so that’s the top priority.

Drain, Indeed! I asked the staff if I looked like the type of person who would enjoy the music being played. Blank stares. Like it or not, the customer base in these parts is grumpy old white guys. And we have lots of bars to choose from. I was enjoying my visit to BarCelona and then they ruined it.
I’ll take beer on ice over rap shit any day.

The storm is still in full fury mode, and I’m still in the dark.
For a tropical country with lots of rainfall, it is shocking how little drainage infrastructure is in place. And what little there is doesn’t seem very effective.

Digory, yep, it was as good as it looks.
Nope, I just handed Chu the tip. Some places don’t allow individual tips, so I’ll slip the tip in a pocket as needed.
It is the La Union Hash anniversary run, so we are going up to participate in that event. I foresee some beer drinking as well. My surfing days are over, but I’ll enjoy looking at the waves.

Kev, Swan and I seem to be in sync most of the time. Now, it could be that she goes along to get along, but when I ask for her input first, we seem to be of like minds.
As for bar hopping, variety is the spice of life! I don’t think what we do quite meets the definition of “hopping.” We have a few places we enjoy and frequent regularly, each with its own attraction. Swan is on a friendly basis with some of the staff in most of the venues we visit, so that adds to the enjoyment. I could pick a favorite bar and hang out there exclusively, I suppose, but I’d miss the unique qualities the other joints offer. There are around fifty bars in Barretto, but I only venture into several on a semi-regular basis.

Digory, It’s me, Swan, Swan’s sister, a full-time and a part-time helper sharing in the bounty. It’s more than food, there’s toiletries and other household goods as well. I also pay a premium for the imported shit I like.
The food we bought was one Filipino dish that the girls all shared. They didn’t eat with us. Kokomo’s doesn’t have a kitchen. I bought the food at Treasure Island. I have no idea what food, if any, is provided to the staff at either venue. Swan was feeling generous and I was happy to oblige. No big deal.

Thompson, well, the guy Hashers pee wherever they want on trail, but the gals are a bit more discreet.
I never had a job that provided the luxury of hiding out in the toilet. I guess I just got lucky in that regard. Now, when I was a mailman sometimes I’d hang out in a patrons bedroom, but that’s a different story. Still, your job must have sucked if sitting on a toilet with the lights out was more fun than working. Glad you made it through those dark days!
It seems to me that you may be best suited to be a writer. You could even work on the toilet if you wanted. Have you ever considered that line of work?
Beware of looking for goals: look for a way of life. Decide how you want to live and then see what you can do to make a living WITHIN that way of life.

Digory, Yep, Kennel is the appropriate name for a Hash group. I’m not sure where the Pattaya Hashers hung out (I suspect Hot Zone) but I’m sure they were mindful of maintaining high standards and good conduct.
The woman you mention is the manager and wife of the IDM owner. She is friendly and kind to all customers, whether they like it or not. I’ve never heard any complaints.

Brian, yes, I’ve wondered about that myself. Most of the bars have foreigner managers, but I’m not sure what their visa status might be. I’d have to think long and hard before getting involved directly.
Probably the smarter course of action would be to purchase some property for Swan. She could use it to generate rental income or else live there rent free.
We’ll see. Hopefully I’ve still got time to make a plan.
