Hot enough for AC

Sorry, Willy. I don’t pay that much attention to the origins of the joke memes I post. I’ll try, but can’t promise.

Rose, permission granted.

Some like it hot

Drain, Better to be prepared than surprised for sure.

Dr. Greg, thank you for your support. I drink out of a 12 ounce bottle, so I’m not a heavy drinker.

DS, yeah, I wondered about that, especially because I hadn’t heard about this anywhere else. Selling F-16s we don’t need anymore makes more sense. That said, I am hearing more jet engines overhead than I used to. Usually they are those big military transport aircraft. I fear something is brewing…

Weakened

Jughead, everyone needs to choose their own path in life. My path leads to the bar district. To each his own.

Kevin, well, drinking is something I’m good at, that’s for sure. I’ve had lots of practice over the years.

Anyway, I don’t see it as a problem and I have no desire or inclination to alter this aspect of my life. I am what I am and that’s all that I am.

Keith, I was in the wrong as I should have calmly discussed my feelings with her. But, I don’t cross the line very often and I’m trying hard to be a good boyfriend. She deserves the best I can be. If that isn’t enough, she is free to move on and pursue someone better.

Thanks, as always, Brian for your insights.

I might be the definition of “alcoholic.” If so, so be it. I feel like I’m in control of my beer drinking habit, albeit, with an occasional screw up. But the bottom line is I have no desire or intention to quit drinking. So, what you see is what you get. I’m not one of those guys frequenting the bars that open at 8 a.m. and I’m not out drinking at closing time. I have my three hour window of opportunity and I adhere to it, for better or worse.

Glad the video played for you in Spain.

Sandy, I don’t always lose my temper with her. If she is not happy with me, she is free to leave. I agree, she deserves to be treated like the special woman she is. I am doing my best, hopefully I am good enough.

Thanks, Terry. I was thinking the USA was the most likely place it would be blocked. Glad that wasn’t the case. Heard from a friend who watched it in Hawaii without an issue as well.

Hiphophead, Yes, there were some cuties competing this year.

Techno Tex, it’s not that bad and not that often. An occasional raising of the voice or being a smartass.

Drain, Wow! That makes twice in a row that we have agreed on something!

The day is done

Kev, there are over 7000 islands of tropical paradise here in the PI. The nicest I’ve seen so far is Palawan. Bohol is at the top of my bucket list of places to see in the Philippines.

Cecil, Thousands of comedians are out of work, and you’re trying to be funny?

A mind is a terrible thing to waste

Aaron, I knew you’d be happy to know where to go to find a girl with something extra.

Nothing comes easy

Drain, at last, a subject we agree on! My real concern is the corrupt UN ICC involvement. It should have been up to the Filipino people to how him accountable for his crimes. The reaction to his arrest here has been outrage…but not against the man or his crimes. Oh well, that’s why things are the way the are here and as an outsider, there is nothing I can say about it.

I also agree with your assessment that he was no friend to the USA. He was in bed with China, again to the detriment of his own people. Or at least, that’s how I see it. But my opinion is my own and doesn’t mean squat.

In da village

Thanks for the link. I’d seen several updates and considered posting them, now I don’t have to!

Kevin, I hope the locals are grateful enough to clean the toilets. Perhaps they’ll need training.

No, the “gimme, gimme, gimme” was my false captioning. The kids were exceptionally polite and thankful for the goodness Swan dispensed.

The bull/carabao signage is for the place next to Dempsey’s. Dempsey’s doesn’t have much street frontage–you walk through a door, down a short hallway, and into the bar.

Swan thinks “bagnet” is a form of deep-fried pork but isn’t sure.

Well, Vitaly will definitely suffer during his time at the immigration holding jail prior to deportation proceedings which may take months. From the photos I’ve seen, it is an overcrowded, unsanitary nightmare.

Charles, it’s been so long now that I honestly can’t remember the specifics of seasons or episodes. I do recall it is worth the watch. Enjoy!

A brief recap

Kevin, no joke. That was a classic fuck up and indicative of the sorry state of my addled brain. I was thinking “ado,” and my fingers typed “adieu.” And when I did a proofread (yeah, you can’t tell, but I do do that), it still sounded correct. Hmm, maybe I’m on to something. It’s funny how bad my writing can be!

The first guy I went to was a scammer (took the parts money upfront, then never delivered), so I bought the portable keyboard. I don’t like the way it feels, so I set it aside and reach over to tap it whenever I need a z, x, c, or v. That’s a pain in the ass as well. Nothing comes easy for me these days, it seems.

A half-assed Hash

Ah, yeah. I should have known better. I was remembering that the station names were written in both languages, but I referenced the announcements. My bad!

» Posted By John McCrarey On 02/April/2025 @ 9:57 am

Brian, these days, nothing comes easy for me, especially learning. My biggest struggle is remembering things, like my name. Those earbuds seem like a cool way to go. I had a conversation once with a Thai bargirl using Google translate, and it was better than the usual surface interactions.

I don’t have any issues with people who move to the USA and never learn to speak English. That’s on them. Just don’t demand any of the accommodations you mention. I don’t expect dual-language signage when traveling, although I appreciate seeing it. In Seoul, they announced the subway stations in both Hangeul and English.

It’s “beer near” but a bear would get me moving faster, too.

» Posted By John McCrarey On 02/April/2025 @ 8:29 am

Kevin, The fact is I chose the Philippines in part because English is an official language here. So, technically, I’m in the mainstream. That said, I have picked up some vocabulary in Tagalog and learn new words and phrases through Swan occasionally. I’m acclimated to the culture but refuse to participate in certain aspects, such as littering.

Daysun

Always nice to hear from you, Drain. Hope all is well. I respect your right to believe as you choose. I’m sure nothing I can say would change your mind anyway.

That was actually the first time in months I bothered baking a batch of brownies for the feeding. I usually just bring a box of Choco-Pies for dessert. These were different that the last batch I made for them…no walnuts, but some candies on top.

I was referring to Young Chun, the author of the book.

The same, but different

Kev, yes it was a surprise to be ghosted but maybe it shouldn’t have been. People do tend to show you the true nature of their character once they decide you are no longer of any value to them.

I tried one of the items from that bakery and it was dry and disappointing. I decided it wasn’t worth the calories and discarded it halfway through.
