Brian, Yeah, that does sound gross. In my case they had a hand-held breathalyzer and if your registered high on that, they had a bigger and presumably more accurate one on the curb. I knew I was legally sober, but it was still pretty scary. I am very much opposed to drinking and driving and always did subway or taxi if after drinking.

Kev, no, most of the Hares (especially the two from Monday) are honest about a trail’s difficulty and don’t try to bullshit people into something they don’t want to do. I had a map of the trail ahead of time; I just didn’t remember the bypass climb being that hard. There is one Subic Hare I don’t trust, and I plan accordingly for alternatives and shortcuts.

Kev, I haven’t done the McGill thing yet, but done some other stretcher-cises. The back is improved, although not as yet pain-free. My new concern is a stabbing pain in lower abdomen when I lay down on my left side. That doesn’t seem muscular.

That’s the way it works. Come into the USA legally, obey the laws, and you ain’t got nothing to worry about from the Nazis…

Sorry to be such a disappointment, Ben. I’m definitely the opposite of a lib. I was raised in the Christian faith but left the church and its teachings as a teen. So, I don’t believe in the Christian God, but I’m not really an atheist either. I think some power drives our universe, just not the one depicted in the Bible. And Mary wasn’t a virgin.

Regarding those young men at the ATM, I thought of that same photo you linked when I saw them. “WTF is the FBI doing in town?”
Dinner at sixish, and in bed by nine. Of course, my inability to resist dessert before sleeping is the real problem.
“The joke’s are on me” has one apostrophe too many. I had initially written it as “the joke’s on me.” But since I post three hilarious memes, I added the “are” but failed to delete the singular rendering of joke. Even when I know the right way, I fuck it up.

Kev, it did seem weird that Oasis didn’t have the buns needed for about half the items on their menu. Why bother with a kitchen at all? No idea what’s going on with Tryst; I heard they are having staffing issues.
Regarding the tense issue with the meme, one fix might be to add “had” to the second sentence. Or you could make the second sentence the first sentence.
I’m still 50-50 on the climb. If I don’t do it on Monday, I’ll go up there for a morning hike when it is a little cooler. The other issue with Monday’s Hash is the On-Home is a long way from Easter Mountain. In years past, the Hash trail was the ascent and descent; then, we’d be driven to the On-Home venue. There will still be a pretty good hike to go after the exhausting up and down. We’ll see.

You need to prove monthly income for the SSRV (retirement) visa, but not for a tourist visa. Last year they added a question on the extension form about why you want to stay longer in the PI. I always answer, “because I’m having fun and there are more places I want to see.” Never had any pushback on getting approved. You do have to leave the country after three years, but when you return, the clock resets. I got burned during the scamdemic because my time ran out and I needed to get vaxxed to fly out and back again. Oh well, the Sinovac shots didn’t kill me…yet.

I’m eligible for a retirement visa (SSRV) and began the process when I first moved here. It proved to be a big pain in the ass, so I chose to go the tourist route. A visit to immigration every two months before shopping isn’t that inconvenient.

Brian, yeah, I’m not seeing the likelihood of Filipino culture becoming dominant in Asia. Korean culture is very big here in the PI.
No, finances were not an issue in Korea, my generous pension was sufficient to live comfortably there. The heartbreak of losing the woman I loved and being surrounded by the memories we shared necessitated my retreat to a new life in the Philippines. The person I was back then is dead now.

Kev, I was referring to my married life. Six months in Korea, six months at my bought and paid for house in the USA, spending that time with my kids and grands. I was a happy man! Then Jee Yeun told me, “I no have happy life with you,” and asked for a divorce. I spent a year trying to change her mind without success. I still don’t understand what made her unhappy. On my fourth try, I was finally a good and faithful husband. I planned to spend the rest of my life that way. And now, here I am.

Cuthbert, the coolest climate in the PI is probably in Baguio, a mountaintop city known as the “summer capitol”. I’ve been there to Hash a few times, and it is the only place where I’ve felt chilly since moving here. Even saw my breath one night.
All I ever wear is shorts, but lots of folks seem comfortable in pants.

Yeah, I vaguely recall that dating show you mention. Here’s the thing, though. In the USA I’d be invisible to most women because I’m old and fat. So, is an American woman’s desire for a handsome stud any less shallow than a Filipina’s desire for financial security? Of the two, I think going for the money is a wiser option.
Here’s a (made up) story I sometimes tell: I asked a cute, young, Filipina I was seeing, “When we first met, what attracted you to me?” She smiled and said, “Well, to be honest, it was the bulge in your pants.” I instinctively looked down at my crotch and she said, “No, not that one” then pointed at my wallet.

Brian, I was referring to beer prices. When I first moved here I thought if funny how the expats bitched that a bottle of beer in one bar was 90 pesos, when you could get it in another bar for 50. I was like, who cares? I was paying the equivalent of 350 pesos for an SML in Korea. Lady drinks are a scam, but I participate because it helps the bargirls supplement their meager wages (around 300 pesos a day if they are lucky). My generosity has its limits, and I won’t be a total sucker when the LDs are way over priced.
