Kev, this is the Philippines, “sorry sir, out of stock” is a standard saying in all the stores. I get it that imported goods will be less reliably available, and you can expect to pay more to cover shipping expenses, but damn, TRIPLE the price? Nope, not for me, I’ll do without.

It’s weird that I keep misspelling Oreo (heh, I just caught myself doing it again). The “o” and the “a” aren’t even close on the keyboard. I guess my brain says “o” and my finger hears “a” for some reason. The wonders of old age!

Kev, I had Amazon Prime when I first moved here, but too many of their shows weren’t available in the Philippines for some reason. I’ve never looked into Apple TV (I hate the company and their products) but it appears to be similar to Netflix. I’ll look into if I decide to spend more time in front of the television.

Brian, never tried that yogurt drink idea, but it seems plausible. Ice cream might work, too. Easier for me to just avoid the spicy though. That’s why I’m not big on Thai food.

Kev, The VFW hosts several charity events, as does the RSL (Aussie version). I’ve participated in an RSL community feeding before.
Yeah, the bars come and go and change all the time. Luckily, there are so many I can always find one I enjoy.
I keep meaning to order my Jewel steak without gravy but always forget. It tastes fine, but not what I’m accustomed to seeing.

Brian, that would work for me. I only go one or twice a month anyway, and after this week’s sad performance I be less like to attend even infrequently.
The same old, same old is bad enough, but when one of the consistently best groups drops out, it is not going to get better. Honestly, someone attending for the first time this week would have no reason to ever go back.

Well, it’s a vicious circle. Why is no one at the beach? Nothing to do there; everything is closed. Why is everything closed? Because no one is at the beach. Oh, well.
It’s always summer in the Philippines. But now it is the rainy part of summer here, and even a lot of the expats choose this time of year to return to their home countries and avoid the storms. It’s definitely the low season for tourists.
Yeah, I almost edited that long ago finger from the photo but decided that would be like altering history. I’ll fix it in my “do-over” life.

Kev, the problem is that a one-man effort would make no difference–the trash would all be back the next day. I’ve had similar fantasies, but mine would be to start an NGO foundation that would feed and transport unemployed folks to a daily cleanup spot. I’d have a couple of Jeepneys for getting them there, a trash truck for hauling the litter away, and provide a fair daily salary of 500 pesos (more than most bar girls make). Another plus to my plan would be every time I get a plea for a “loan” to pay rent or utilities, I’d refer them to my NGO and let them earn it. Everybody’s a winner! I’ll get started once I win the lottery.
Yeah, life is fleeting, but friendships shouldn’t be. I know you’ve still got lifelong friends. I need to ask that man in the mirror WTF is going on.

I stay out of it as much as I can. A couple of the gals have turned on Swan, and she says she doesn’t know why. Then, we had a Hash couple’s relationship end, and he started dating another Hash female. That caused some sparks. Anyway, if it wasn’t one thing, it would be another.Yes, women have proven they are as big an asshole as men when given the power to do so. Shit, can you imagine our world now if Hillary had been elected? Yikes!

Brian, yes, during my visit the Hindu vibe was prevalent and not an issue with me. I’m sure my concerns were unfounded, but Indonesia being Muslim was worrisome because a change of government might bring Iran-like law enforcement. The friends I traveled to Bali with, Tom and Yuli, were great tour guides. Yuli was from Jakarta and Tom was working there when they met. When they decided to get married, Tom had to convert to Islam. I didn’t want to face that prospect.
We’ll see what the future brings for potential travel destinations. I need to get off my lazy ass and explore more of the Philippines.

Kev, these relationship failures cut both ways and surprisingly, Reekay didn’t acknowledge that.
A Filipina lying about her marital status can have HUGE repercussions for the boyfriend if the spouse files criminal adultery charges. The Philippines is a good example of how a Catholic-dominated country/culture can make life more difficult than it ought to be. Divorce being illegal is a biggie (you have to go through a long and expensive annulment process here). And the difficulty of acquiring birth control products is why you see so many young mothers (I’m talking teens). It’s sad to see as an outsider, but the locals seem to accept the infringements on their freedoms without protest.

Brian, we do the Hash birthday cakes once a month, and since it makes a big mess, we need the appropriate venue. Next week we are on the beach at Kim’s Place, and rumor has it some June b-day cakes will be made.

Kev, coincidentally, Swan turned 41 years old today, so I’m still “creepy” by whoever established that formula. Of course, here in the Philippines, it is said that “age is just a number.” I’ve chosen to identify as 30, so I can uncreepily date a 22-year-old. I guess that’s why it felt so weird with Mary.
It reminds me of my 50-year-old friend who took his 20-year-old wife out for their wedding anniversary. He told me that he could hear people whispering, “Pedophile,” and that their rude behavior ruined his tenth anniversary.

Brian, I’m not sure what all they learn, the but caregiver program takes about a year to complete. I sent two Filipinas through the process and that helps them achieve the coveted “OFW” (Overseas Filipino Worker) status. Last night, Swan used cold wet wash cloths to rub down my overheated body and also gave me an antibacterial pill she had on hand. Sure, that’s nothing that a loving partner wouldn’t do for you, but it was nice to be the recipient of Swan’s talents.
