Hmmm, I probably should not post after having a few beers in a country bar. To clarify, the women employed by the bar were not shall we say up to the standards of beauty I have come to expect in Itaewon. Friendly to be sure, but not in the least bit tempting (and no, I don’t think I could drink enough beer to change that).
Now, the customers were ok, I didn’t mean to imply that only ugly people frequented the joint. And yes, being in a good old fashioned country dive was somewhat of a journey through the past…I met KaraLynne in a country bar in Flagstaff, AZ. Although I never thought of her last night and would not have today but for your mention Carol. 😈

Thanks again, concerned. I was not technically on the Assembly Bldg. grounds, just at the park where they were doing the cherry blossom festival. I’m not sure what the perimeter of the off limits area is, but I was mostly down by the Han River (it’s where I took the picture from).
As to medical care, I am sure I read in my orientation materials that you could use the facilities in an emergency on a fee basis and civilians were the bottom priority. For example, I went to the dental clinic when I lost a crown, and they referred me to a dentist on the economy (even made the appointment).

Thanks, concerned. I do not believe Yeouido is off limits. Also, as a civilian I am given no other options but off post medical treatment (unless it is an emergency). I get my haircuts on post though.

Ashley, I have looked at the 6 judges in question. You go look and tell me why they don’t deserve to be on the bench. There is absolutely no reason they should not be given an up or down vote by the Senate. That’s the Constitution. That’s democracy.

That nice house is built on a busy road with nothing to view except the shit dwellings surrounding it. Nothing like advertising you are the richest person around. Which is why that spikey fence is necessary.
And now I’ve learned two new words! Thanks for the compliments on the photo; I was just lucky with that one. For the record, that’s not Swan sitting by the railing; it’s just some random stranger who happened to be there. I’m glad she enhanced the view with some perspective, though.
I don’t mention my family much, and I haven’t been home for six years now. Of course, no one has visited me here either. I’ve pretty much been ghosted, which hurts, but I try not to dwell on it.

Dr. Jo didn’t seem concerned about my lower BP readings. She did ask if I experience light-headedness, which only rarely occurs. We are going to reduce my BP meds by half and see what happens.

I don’t know that that is a distinction in terms with any meaning. Service to or service in government, it’s still longer than I’ve even been alive and that is a weird feeling. Especially as his supervisor. I am very deferential!

Dick and Susan, yes the springtime here is all that was promised. I admit the cherry blossoms have caused a small bout of homesickness. I hope to go to a cherry blossom festival in Seoul this weekend to get a real taste.
And yes I believe those are dandelions. And no, we don’t observe daylight savings time here. You are correct, that makes it 13 hours difference.

Hypocrisy of the Left: A worldwide phenomenon?
It’s not about democracy, Euro. No one is critisizing because they protest war. It just seems strange that they only protest wars in which America is involved. That’s hypocrisy.
And Carol, I’m not taking a stand on Chechnya. Perhaps the Russian tactics are a tad brutal, but it is hard to sympathize with killers of school children. The point is if you are against Iraq, at least be consistent. It is not war this pussies hate, it is the USA. I think that should be abundantly clear by now.

The slavery thing is intended to show that America is not and has historically not been perfect. Far from it. We learn from our past mistakes, we grow, we move on. And we make new mistakes and repeat the process. That’s what makes us great. So, warts and all we are still the shining beacon of hope for freedom and liberty.
You know, I had a Korean compare our atrocities against the native Americans as just as bad as what is happening today in North Korea. Perhaps, but we have learned from the sins of our fathers, and perhaps freeing the oppressed is our national penance.
So, the song is not celebrating slavery, it is recognizing that we have our skeletons but we are not going to keep them in the closet. Sometimes we screw up, but we strive to fix it (Civil War/Civil Rights) and at the end of the day we are a stronger nation because of it.
America, F*** Yeah!

For Carol and all others who may be concerned that I am developing some bad habits here, I did not mean to imply that ALL I do is go to bars. It is pretty much a once or twice on the weekend thing, and I do not drink to excess generally (twice since I’ve been here, and I think that should be plenty for the rest of the year at least). Sometimes I just want to be around other people, and that is my only motivation to visit a bar. Assuming I make some friends I would prefer other venues.
So don’t worry.

Hey Euro, thanks for the tip on how to comport myself in a bar, especially after the butt chewing I got from the wife in the first comment. Besides not being a soldier, I am 49 years old and just not interested in the whoring part. In fact, I avoid all the bars that have drinky girls period. I just want to quaff a brew and chat with the other patrons. My getting wild days are a distant memory, and for that I am thankful (not that I won’t always cherish those memories).
Nice to meet another CIVIII plsyer. I’ve been playing since the days when it was just plain old Civilization. You must be damn good if you presume to think you could beat me! 😛 Actually, I have never played against another human, so I don’t know how I might stack up. I’ve learned to take advantage of the predictablilty of the AI.

Actually, those recipes look easy enough for a non-cook to utilize. I think that beef and noodles is going on the menu!
As to looking hot, I think that is impossible for me here in Korea. You know my beautiful blue eyes? I was told by one of the sisters at Caroline’s that my eyes were scary. Like a cat’s eye. Go figure, there’s just no accounting for taste I suppose.
