For what it is worth, the military has really cracked down and has zero tolerance for trafficking/prostitution.
I had heard stories of girls being forced to give up their passports and forced to go with customers, which obviously crosses the line. I never witnessed it and if I did I would report it.
I hope someday the fates allow you to find and see your child. Good luck to you!

As you might recall, my objection to the speech wasn’t based on content, no one knew the content. That was part of the problem. What we DID know was that my former employer ED had drafted study guides that included writing letters on how they would support the President’s agenda. When they subsequently withdrew that after the firestorm, I updated my blog post accordingly.
Bottom line, the Dems went nuts when Bush I talked to students and now criticize the Repubs for doing the same thing.

Well, Kevin we are mostly in agreement on this one.
I connected with a high school buddy on facebook who works for the Portland newspaper. He was complaining about the paper failing and I tried to engage him on why that might be. I mean, yeah the Craigs list type sites are taking away ad revenue, but that does not explain the loss of readership. I proposed that maybe the quality of the product was the problem.
I never heard from him again.
So, I really respect the fact that as a journalist you are honest enough to cast a critical eye on your profession. I think recognizing there is a problem is the first step towards whatever the fix might be.
Just tell me that you think Keith Olbermann is at least as big a douche as Bill O’Reilly…

Well, it was a late night post on my part and not my best work. I just got a kick out of Hamsher saying Jones was representative of liberals and her line of “no coherent argument” was classic.
If Jones was Obama’s only poor choice it could perhaps be more easily forgiven. And it wasn’t just the “truther” statement that was the problem. He called himself a communist and Republicans assholes supported the cop killing Mumia and said whites intentionally pollute neighborhoods of people of color. So, are those views representative of the left and the Obama administration.
You know, what I found most interesting was that the MSM completely ignored the story until the resignation. And now they are spinning it as a Right wing smear job. Yes indeed, Jones was smeared by his own words and deeds.

FWIW Kevin, Dennis has corrected me on occassion, but the mistakes just keep on comin’! I go back and re-read some of my posts and they are chock full of typos and misspellings. I’m just too damn lazy or in a hurry to to proofread carefully. But, they way I see it, it’s more about what you say than how you say it. Or so I tell myself.
In the video towards the end, Demi and friends change their pledge for doing good to pledging to serve Obama. A subtle distinction perhaps, but I thought it striking.
Well, the Hitler reference was perhaps a bit over the top, but I didn’t compare Obama to Hitler. I just noted that Hitler instituted swearing allegiance to the man, not the institution. And no, Obama has not required such an oath. I just find it bizarre that so many lefties worship the man. I don’t see you in that category by the way.
You know, I didn’t like Bush’s deficits either. But come on, Obama has more than quadrupled them to little or no positive effect. He promised if we passed the stimulus, unemployment would not exceed 8%. Double digits last time I looked.
You know, it has been demonstrated countless times that cutting taxes stimulates the economy. Raising them only exacerbates the recession. Reagan was only one example. You are too young to remember just how bad things were during the Carter years.
Anyway, I appreciate you sharing your views.

You know Kevin, I expected something better from you than setting up straw man arguments to knock down. As I am sure you know, my point was not about people making pledges to do something good for the world, it was about making pledges “to serve” Obama. Uh, that’s why I rewrote the Pledge of Allegiance…
What did Obama take from me? Well, I’m old so I guess I can’t complain about what a 9 TRILLION deficit is going to do our future prosperity. Too bad for you spending a lifetime paying for it. And it sucks for Gracyn and Alex. When he takes my taxes to nationalize GM and bail out Wall Street tycoons, I don’t like it. When he tries to set up socialized healthcare it is a government intrusion in my life that impacts my liberty and freedom to choose. Kevin, have you read anything at all about the nightmare of gov’t healthcare in Great Britain? Do you not find it odd that bordertown hospitals are full of Canadians?
But yeah, we haven’t been attacked by terrorists. Which is a great thing. Now tell me Kevin, what has Obama done to take credit for that? Well, I will give him credit for having the good sense to not change a damn thing that the evil Bush/Cheney implemented to defend our homeland.
I believe reasonable people can disagree on the wisdom of invading Iraq. I would note that Congress (including the overwhelming majority of Democrats) approved that action. I for one think the world is a much better place without Saddam in it, and we have given the Iraqi people an opportunity to live in a democratic society. The rest is up to them.
Thanks for sharing the info on Reagan. His words certainly resonate today. It is striking in fact to be reminded of just how small our current political class has become when compared to the greatness of the past.
Anyway, as a federal employee I have sworn an oath to defend the Constitution. Americans do not swear an oath to serve the President. You know, one of the first things Hitler did when he took power was to require swearing allegiance to him, not the state. Just sayin’.

Interesting points as usual Dennis. I certainly agree with your thoughts on what constitutes the “fringe”. Basically, the vast majority of people in the USA are not actively “engaged”. Thus by definition, those who are on both the right and left, are on the fringe. And you are correct, that is not necessairly a bad thing.
You know, most Americans are middle of the road on most issues. I think what has happened to Obama in polls is a reflection of this. Obama campaigned as a moderate and is governing as a leftist. That is obviously not sitting well with a clear majority of the electorate.
Faced with this same situation, Clinton moved to the middle and for the most part was effective. Only time will tell if Obama is also politically astute enough to do so.
And Kevin, what about the guy (can’t think of his name, the CEO of Whole Foods). Now, he’s a liberal who offered some sensible alternatives to Obamacare in a WSJ editorial. And the left has turned on him, calling for a boycott. So, who is trying to drown out the debate?
That’s the saddest thing of all I think. Robust political discourse is no longer welcomed in America, and that is a bad thing for democracy.

Well, logically speaking I understand where you are coming from Fortuneate. Which is exactly why the government should not be in the health care provider business. As I understand Medicare, the goveernment is in the reimbursement business, they don’t make the call on recommended treatments. Let’s keep it that way.
And oh by the way, what are these “goverment funds” you mention. The only funds the government has are the funds that the taxpayers provide. Hence, it should be OUR call on what will or will not happen regarding healthcare. Which is why the folks are showing up in mass at the townhalls…

Actually, the polls and protesters don’t matter. I always respected the fact that Bush stuck to what he believed no matter how unpopular. What does matter to me is that Congress listen to the people and not pass what I believe will be an unmitgated disaster known as Obamacare.
My beef with the Dixie Bitches was two-fold–you don’t trash your own country on foriegn soil. We can fight amongst ourselves at home, but outside of our borders we need to respect what it means to be an American. The other problem I had was that having said what they said, the Bitches whined about the reaction they received. Yes, we have free speech but it cuts both ways. Say what you want, but if you get called out on it by others exercising free speech except the consequences without complaint.
