I have to tell you, I had a bad experience with my previous association with KDF. I was sandbagged the whole tourney and THEN reprimanded on the website for being a sandbagger.

Fair points. I would not call anyone a halfrican to their face and not expect a punch in the nose.
You know, I’m not going to try and defend everything Limbaugh says. He uses satire and mockery to make points. I didn’t hear the context of the quotes you cite, so I can’t judge.
I’m sure we can agree that the same standards should apply to all, regardless of politics.

Now the made up quotes were blatant things like slavery was a good thing and that James Earl Ray should get the Medal of Honor for killing ML King. Purely made up shit.
Anyway, the point is when we establish a political litmus test for team ownership, employment or anything, we are in real dangerous territory.
Sorta like what The One is trying to do to Fox News…

We’ve been in Korea for 60 now and even though we couldn’t “afford” it, it’s hard to argue it has not been worth it…

You know, I try to stay out of the comments figuring folks can either handle the back and forth or ignore comments they consider inappropriate.
I like it better when people play nice of course.
This blog is in fact basically a chronicle of my life in Korea, but of course one cannot avoid politics where ever they live. Plus, I’ve kinda fallen into a routine in my life that is not at all unpleasant, but does not create many bloggable moments.
So, I like to share and comment on things I find out there on the Web and getting feedback from readers makes doing so lots more fun.
Looking forward to seeing you on this side of the world soon Lauren and for a rematch with Kevin (I don’t remember losing, but I’m not denying it either).

What has Obama done that I don’t like? As I mentioned, his failure to keep his promise about making Afghanistan a priority is one thing. His lack of will on Iran is another. His turning his spurning long time allies like Great Britain. His meddling in Honduras, his siding with the Palistinians, his investigation into CIA interrogations. Not much to inspire confidence.
And trust me, I would have criticized a Republican who tried to nationalize the private sector as well. In fact, I did not approve of Bush’s bailouts and deficit spending either. Of course, Obama makes Bush look like a pikeer…

No, it wasn’t about blaming the Dems, Kevin. It was just a general realization that there is a “real” world versus the world we might wish for. So, pre-9/11 we treated terrorism like a crime, we woke up on 9/12 and found out we were at war. Nothing has changed since then.
I’m basically a one issue voter now, and that is national security. So far, Obama has not significantly changed any of his predecessors policies and that is likely for the best. I’m worried about his apparent uncertainty about what to do in Afghanistan. Here’s a clue for him: Win!
The other thing that changed for me after 9/11 is I started trolling the internet for various news and views. I was shocked to discover just how slanted and limited the reporting I was getting from the Wash Post really was. So, I think I was better able to “grow” in my view that the less government the better.

Thanks for the encouragement Dennis. I think we all have a duty to spread the word. It’s a scary time for America and I truly do fear the damage being done to our country may be irreparable if we don’t motivate people to stand and say “no”.
As bad as the domestic crap is, what Obama is doing in foreign policy is potentially more destructive.

Thanks for sharing your memories, John. The Itaewon you remember is long gone, but there are still fun times to be had there. Looking back on my years in Korea feels like a different world to me now, but I’m glad I lived that life while it lasted.

Not sure if you’ve heard but Friends closed down a couple of months ago. JJ is still around though. He opened a new place at the bottom of the hill (where the old Manhattan used to be, right above Goldfish). He named the bar JJ’s. Go figure.
The Hill is changing fast as well. Polly finally moved Debut over in one of the alleys by 3 Alley Pub. Apparently all those bars on that side of the street have been sold and they are putting up a hotel there. I fear the hookers will soon be looking for a new area to ply their trade.

Thanks for commenting Lauren. I hope you will continue to contribute to the discussions here. You make some fair points, but I couldn’t help but thinking that the existing system worked very well for you. I’m tempted to say, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
Now, I recognize that there could always be ways to improve and I’m not opposed to that. What I’m against is a massive government intrusion that leaves us in a situation like our Canadian neighbors have to deal with.
As Joni Mitchell so aptly put it: “Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got till its gone…”

C’mon Kevin, you can do better than that! The issue isn’t about who is president, and you know that, right? France did not support the USA when it was necessary to take out an evil dictator. That was bad in my view, and I severely criticized France for being so weak kneed in the face of an international threat.
Now, the situation is almost completely reversed. We have The One going soft on Iran and we have a French leader calling him out on it. Sarkozy recognizes that the threat of a nuclear Iran must be met with action, not platitudes.
So, I am being completely consistent in my criticism. The point of my post was just that I find it odd to be criticizing the USA and agreeing with the French. Strange times indeed.

C’mon Fortuneate. I’ll agree there is nothing hostile in that statement. It’s just plain ignorant. Maybe in some Pollyannish world view you could say no nation “should” dominate another, but if The One truly believes no nation “can” we are in for a world of hurting.
Kevin, mock all you want, but when Qaddafi, Chavez and Castro are heaping praise on Obama at the same time Obama is dissing our long time allies, I think it is cause for concern.

Well, as Obama said himself a couple of years ago, the long range goal is to achieve single payer health care run by the government (the Great Britain model). So, if the government runs all the private insurers out of business, I guess our only choice will be Uncle Sam.
It’s the fact that the liberals are lying about the cost of the program that sticks in my caw. You can’t tell me that insuring 40 million more people is going to save money. And they are going to pay for that by elimanting “fraud, waste and abuse” in medicare? Why don’t they go ahead and do that NOW? What a joke.
I am so proud of my fellow citizens who are not only not buying it but who are voicing their disgust. There’s hope for America yet.
