In theory I have a car. Even insured it. But I’m waiting for a document from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before I can register it. So it remains parked at the embassy annex. I fear the Korean bureaucracy is lacking a sense of urgency in my regard. Regardless, once I do have it I’ll likely only drive to work once a week (for my commissary run). I’ll take the small frustrations of the subway over Seoul traffic any day…

Kevin: It was good, but I’d not wait in line for it. I like the bbq on base better because I can get more. The meat was actually quite well prepared, and I enjoyed the cole slaw. I wish they provided a little more variety in bbq sauce though (they had one flavor for pork and one flavor for brisket. Oh, and the cokes come in bottles, so no free refills.
Soju: I was actually talking about Maurice’s to the boss. She’d never heard of mustard based bbq. It’s definitely unique and I quite enjoy it.

If I had to guess, based on my two encounters with Mike I’d say what ever he made at the hagwan was likely spent in the bars.

Nine days all told. Half inland (Ubud and environs) and half at the beach. We hired a driver and saw quite a bit of the island. Saw no visable trace of Muslim culture, but it seemed like every other house had a Hindu shrine.

Ha, I’m a lover not a fighter. The sad thing is he is associated with the only bar doing Friday night darts, so given my reluctance to engage with dickheads I’m going to have to find a new activity to start my weekend.
As to your question, I honestly don’t know. I’m sure alcohol plays a part, but I suspect assholes are assholes regardless of the endeavor they pursue.

Hey Paul, that is quite the coincidence. I remember my dad was a regular at Blinky’s. He just sat at the bar drinking beer. And there was a pool table and occasionally live music. It was a pretty swingin’ place actually. My younger brother worked there too. I don’t want to admit to some of the antics that took place in the kitchen.

Thanks, Soju. Actually the leg is doing much better these days. I’m grateful for that so I don’t reckon I’ll go breaking it anytime soon.
Kevin, technically I stayed with one employer (Uncle Sam) for 34 years. That’s not to gen-X like I reckon. There’s lots of things that go into a successful career. It doesn’t always involve being the best person for the job. You just need to be the person willing to move around a lot.
