Brandon, yeah doing something a little more hands on might be a better way. I’m actually questioning whether my investment in this particular orphanage is the best use of my money anyway. My domestic helper has it in her mind that I’m being scammed because the kids do not appear to be in need. I’m not convinced that’s the case yet. But I do see families on my hikes that are much more in need. Just not sure how to go about giving them help directly. We’ll see what I come up with.

Kevin, I’m in a pretty good place, both physically and mentally. The other day I was quaffing a bottle of beer at Cheap Charlies and looking around at my fellow patrons, at the street scene below, and inwardly at myself. The thought crossed my mind “is this all there is?” which probably triggered the thinking that led to yesterday’s post. I do think there is more in store for me, but if not I still have it pretty damn good.
I’ve suffered bouts of depression throughout my life and whatever I’m feeling now is nothing like that. But even in those dark days when suicide seemed like an option I always rejected it. I’m just not selfish enough to transfer my pain to those I leave behind. So, the Hemingway out ain’t gonna happen! Thanks for the link though, interesting stuff.

Soju, actually just before I took the photo (wrestling with two suitcases, hence the hemorrhoid face) two kids came out walking their dogs. I’m told a Canadian LTC lives there now with his family.
Yeah, Carol was a hoot. She was supposed to join me in Korea and changed her mind. By then I didn’t want to return to the USA. And another one bites the dust.

Thanks, Jerry. Hope your health improves and you can do whatever makes you happy. That’s the important thing I’ve discovered–it is not where you are it is who you are wherever you are. I’m going to work hard at enjoying these years I hopefully have left.

Hi Brian, missed your comment earlier. Well, they play music by request, but it’s mostly a younger crowd now and a lot more Korean. I popped in briefly this trip and it is clean and nice inside, just not my scene.

Lunch-ish on Saturday would work. I’m heading down to Pyeongtaek on Sunday. Plan to return to Seoul after doing the medical stuff, but not sure what day I’ll be back after that. Maybe we can do a reciprocal lunch or dinner.

Soju, do not despair. I honestly do sense a rising tide against the ignorance perpetrated by the likes of the extremists on the left. In fact, I think the election of AOC and company opened a lot of eyes and the “silent majority” are not going to stand by and lose everything so many gave all for throughout our history.
At least I hope so.

Kev, I’m guessing my errors are more about sloppiness and laziness than ignorance. Sometimes when I go back and re-read something I’ve written I’m like “seriously?” I was thinking their and typed there or some such stupidity. Granted, as you’ve noted in the past, I could use some education on proper use of commas.
But I am capable of learning! As a matter of fact I made a point of looking up the correct spelling of samgyeopsal. Didn’t want your head to explode!
As for rainy season, I’ve only experienced the one and it was like the worst in a decade. Even the paved streets were under water in lots of places. The usual trails in the mountains get muddy which makes them more treacherous than usual for slips, trips, and falls. We still did them though, avoiding the steepest paths and using extra caution. And usually always came back on-home with dirty and wet shoes.
