Kev, my pole is a twist lock I bought in one of those mountaineering shops at the base of Bukhansan several years ago. I’ve seen the snap-lock types you mention, and yeah, they appear to be quite unreliable. I should have purchased a backup pole when I was in Korea last year. Oh well. I’m not sure what was wrong with mine, I twisted and twisted to no effect. Then I extended the pole out a bit more, and it locked right into place. Go figure.
And yeah, a walk is never truly the same. Weather, time of day, the people out and about all change. You just need to keep your eyes open and be receptive to it all. I resolve to be better at that.
Dan, I really like the idea of capturing faces but honestly, I’m pretty shy about photographing people. Hell, I feel weird just taking pictures of their shacks and shanties. Sometimes I pretend I’m taking a selfie, Might have to perfect that technique!

Dan, I doubt it. Hana has a live-in. She hit him hard enough on the boat to draw blood and blacken an eye. He’s still with her. Resa is quite attractive and doesn’t have trouble finding guys to sponsor her (send money from their home country). Rumor has it more than one at a time. The last guy I saw her with was a Swede. Anyway, I’ve known her for over a year and just discovered how insane she can be. Easy to hide if you are out of town and/or she’s not drunk I suppose.

Nope, haven’t talked to the crazies. The Barangay doesn’t seem to be in any hurry for witness testimony, I’ll blog the story, such as it is, today.

Ouch! Yeah, I know you can be led to lead, but the burden of leadership can be a lead weight on the soul.
Anyway, just another brainfart which seems to be happening with increasing frequency. I sometimes catch them before I embarrass myself, but obviously not always.

Well, the civilian union filed a grievance. It was my job to defend the command. But the bottom line is that the overseas commander has broad discretion to do what is necessary to protect the folks he is responsible for. GEN Sharp claimed it was a safety issue based on intelligence regarding a terrorist attack on places where Americans congregated. Anyway, we won the case but the curfew was lifted on civilians a couple of months later.
It’s true though before I moved to Korea I did not frequent bars much. Itaewon ruined me! 🙂

I expect it could here as well. If the police don’t want to pursue a criminal case, the Barangay officials will investigate and attempt to negotiate a settlement. So much here revolves around “face” and the loss thereof…

Agree that beer in bottles is best, but for camping out cans are more practical. Lighter and they don’t take up as much room in the ice chest.

It’s actually quite pleasant this time of year. That’s what brings in the tourists I suppose. 87F right now with 56% humidity. A nice 15 mph breeze makes it feel even milder…

Kev, yeah the more you want/need it the less likely you’ll find it. Or so it seems. When something does appear back on the shelves, I’ll stock up with more than I need. Everyone probably does that which might be why they are always out. Oh well. No, I haven’t done the Amazon thing yet. I may have to break down and go that route. Or do an “empty suitcase” run to the USA.
Dan, that would have a nice symmetry for sure. It’s weird, I know two guys from Sweden named Pierre. And no Stefan. Or Gustav for that matter. Go figure.

Kev, yeah I should have looked at the entire menu to see what’s on offer. There is a place in Manila called The Filling Station with an old-timey American menu like you describe. Next time I’ll check it out and report back. I’d be surprised though if they do based on the breakfast offerings.
Dan, there were a couple of people in the water in the first photo. I’m guessing 0830 on a Wednesday morning is not prime time for pool activity.

Dan, that’s my beer of choice, San Miguel Zero. 60 calories, 3% alcohol, low carb. There are a couple of upscale bars that serve thick beers on tap, and others have things like Guinness in bottles. I’m no connoisseur but I know what I like!

I grew up in Southern Cal so earthquakes are kind of “eh, so what?” This is as close as I’ve ever been to a live volcano (and as close as I ever want to be!). It’s an amazing show of force, and Taal is considered small compared to most volcanos.
Dan, just trying to give my readers what they crave! 🙂 But yeah, a Filipina is likely to be the death of me.

Kev, sleep duration, quality, and restoration add up to 100. The Fitbit monitors heart rate, restlessness, and the stages of sleep. For example, when I had a fair score, I went to bed and 9:50 and got up at 6:01 During that time I was awake 1 hour and 12 minutes, had REM for 19 minutes, light sleep for 6 hours and 7 minutes, and deep sleep for 33 minutes.
I don’t know. I sleep then I start a new day. Just another data point to look at.

As a man in my mid-60s, I try to avoid thinking about my deathbed–that’s the last thing I want to see! 🙂 But to answer your question, the one I took of the sun’s rays hitting the water is also a favorite.
Dan, you are the second person to suggest I take a break from walking and just chill until I feel better. Since Dr. Rest is so highly recommended I might just give him a try and see what happens. Thanks!
