Yeah, wet with sweat or wet with rain, doesn’t make much difference. Still a bit more comfortable to walk without the water pounding down on your head.
Honestly, my first thought when the earth started shaking was about the notorious lack of quality in construction here. Haven’t noticed any damage from this one though.

Don is more the exception than the rule. There are good people to meet. And I’m good sitting alone and watching the world. That’s why I prefer outside bars.

Cool! I got in the habit of marinating with those tough Aussie steaks I think. Henceforth, I’ll skip that step with quality meat.

Yeah, but we don’t have to drink out of old shoes! Anyway, that’s one ritual I would honestly refuse to do. I think there are health implications. Now, one creative Hasher put a plastic cup inside his shoe then drank from that. Smart guy!
Thanks for the advice on the Joule. I’ll look into that. Honestly, cooking that way sounds like a pain in the ass. Then again, if I’m going to spend upwards of a hundred bucks on quality meats I want to be able to cook it to near perfection.
Man, I bet you and John Kim could sit around for hours talking about food. What’s your thinking on marinading quality meat?

I never heard of the guy before that video so at least his politics didn’t ruin it for me. This time.
I miss the first-world infrastructure of Korea for sure. I enjoyed the riverside bike paths for sure, but even the mountain trails like on Bukhansan were well-groomed and maintained. Hell, if those steps I fell down had been LEVEL the slipperiness wouldn’t have been an issue. Ah well, at least the women here like old guys and my money goes further. But I repeat myself.

Kev, yeah maintenance is the challenge. Initially, after losing all that weight I planned to stay under 200. Then I let 205 become my trigger to action. The 210 was a wake-up call to be more disciplined.
I had the same thought about the cartoon, could have been done in four panels rather than six.
Brian, the subdivision is both large and small. It takes me an hour to walk all the streets, but there are only around 35 houses here currently. Lots of construction going on currently though. I’m guessing there are 200 or so vacant lots as well. I like it the way it is more than I’ll like what it will likely become.
You gave me an idea though. To make my afternoon walks more interesting (to me) I’ll document each street and its houses in a series of posts. You are welcome. Or I’m sorry. One of those.

It was a big hit for Judy Collins, that’s probably the version you heard before. Joni Mitchell has written several songs that really resonate with me like this one.
And thanks for the encouragement. Posting here is part of my daily routine, like writing in a diary. Some days there is just not much happening, but I try not to let that stop me. But I can always share photographs of my surroundings I suppose. I’ll also try to talk more about the people and culture here as well.

Well, she showed me the bills, then sent a photo of the receipt after she paid them. So, at least in this case, I’m confident there is no scam. What I have to be on guard for are the inevitable future requests that come with having self-identified as an easy touch.

It’s not the life I dreamed about, but it is the only one that I have. I really thought I’d find a girl and fall in love again. Now, it is whatever gets me through the day. The funny/sad thing is my friends in relationships seem to envy my life of freedom.
One day at a time and see what happens next. That’s what I keep telling myself.

Thanks, guys. Yep, there was no salad being offered. I do remember that. To clarify, as I understand it, by dick I meant asshole–got a little verbally aggressive and dropped the f-bomb. I saw the host and several other attendees at the Hash yesterday and no one seemed out of sorts with me.

Yeah, that was a big walking day for me–helps make up for those lazy days.
Brian, yeah it is something like the high tide line here too I think. The problem is not walking on the beach itself, it is getting access to the beach. There was a time I’d just say “I’m going for a walk on the beach” and they’d let me pass. Now, it’s like that will be 50 pesos. No thanks!

I did 21K yesterday. That includes my dog walk and the steps getting to the beginning of our group hike. After that hike, I “rested” at Dynamite Dicks before walking home and taking a nap. Later, I walked back into town and played darts which also involves some moving around. Anyway, no way I could do all that walking continuously.
Yeah, the hills are a different kind of challenge, but I’m more impressed with your marathon-like hikes.

Glad you like the pics, guys. We have several in the group taking photos during the hike these days, so I’ve got better variety and higher quality shots to share.
It’s funny you both mention the distance. I was telling Scott during this hike about Kevin routinely doing 20+K hikes; Scott was incredulous–“without a break?” I’m needing a rest after 10K. And yes, the elevation makes a big difference. The other day we did a long hard climb that took over 30 minutes. I heard someone’s tracker say ‘total distance, 1K”, but it felt like 3 at least.
Yes, mama is still around. I see her almost every day. She gets her “allowance” and I get my “I love you, papa.” One of the nicest routines in my life here…

In Tagalog it’s a “pek pek”. My problem is when ordering the Filipino delicacy crispy pada I invariably ask for crispy pek pek. So far, the waitress has always laughed…

Good to know! Everything around my neck of the woods is so familiar now it’s hard to find something new to photograph. The 1000 steps thing forces my hand. And with my new starting point, it mixes it up a little bit more. I will try to use this technique more often.

James, yes, Espie is a cutie. Engaged to a guy in Sweden I know. She’s a good girl and completely off-limits.
My new place is fine and I’m comfortable here. I miss the convenience of the location of the other place most. That house is going to need some work before it is ready to rent and I haven’t seen any activity in that regard since I left. Selfishly, I’m hoping it is vacant when my lease here expires. I’d like to offer to move back–at a 10% rent REDUCTION.
I’m not worried about the bar deal much. It’s mostly just helping out a friend and the bar was lagniappe. She might just wind up with a storefront to sell her food from. We’ll see. I honestly don’t care whether I’m ever directly engaged in the bar business.

Honestly, I don’t want the headache or hassle of owning a business. I *think* I could come up with a popular bar concept but this one doesn’t have enough room. More of a “let’s grab a beer here, get some food, and head out for the night” kind of place.
I could get a retirement visa that would allow me to work. That was my plan originally. Still might look into that.
