Kev, I can talk them out of their clothes, I need to gain the ability to see through their deceptions! I don’t think even Superman had that power.
Actually, the adultery law is not a crime in the sense that theft or drugs would be. The authorities won’t investigate or charge you with adultery unless the wronged spouse formally complains. So in my situation, Jee Yeun would have to press charges, and since she is not Filipino and doesn’t live here she has no standing. As long as I leave the married Filipinas alone, I’m not in jeopardy.
There’s the rub, though. Sometimes you don’t know the woman you’ve hooked up with is married. And since divorce is not permitted, a lot of women who appear single are still technically married. Remember Loraine (the heartbreaker)? Her husband abandoned her and his kids many years ago and is living and working in the Middle East where he has remarried and started a new family. But it was still technically adultery for Loraine to sleep with me. Of course, I wasn’t worried about him filing a complaint since he was guilty as well.
Sometimes foreigners get in trouble here this way: meet the gal, start a romance, then all of the sudden the long-gone husband appears from out of the blue and threatens to bring action unless you pay him a sum of money. Yeah, it’s a scam and sometimes the wife is in on it. You do have to be careful. I always ask the gals I meet about the father of their kids. Most of the time they claim to have not been married. I’m not sure if being lied to in that regard would be a defense or not. My big head won’t allow me to blatantly pursue a married woman knowingly, although my little head has been tempted occasionally.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but sometimes these gals just trip my triggers. Of course, more often than not that just leads to disappointment, but that’s okay too. It’s mostly fantasy and illusion anyway. If one of them actually developed feelings for me I’d probably get scared and run away!

Just to be clear, the 20K was all-in–dog walk and beer crawl included. One of the nice things about the group hikes is that they provide some motivation. I wouldn’t have had the gumption to do that long hike in the rain on my own.
Re: the mystery man, I don’t think he pissed himself. I happened to visit Blue Butterfly last night and sat with the same waitress in the photo. She said he didn’t appear drunk, just confused. Pretty scary. I hope I never get that way, but then again, if I do I probably wouldn’t know it. So there’s that.
Don’t get me started on Biden. I didn’t like Obama’s policies, but at least I knew they were his. Who’s running the show now? How much longer can they continue with this charade? It’s more obvious every day that sleepy Joe is an empty suit. Of course, a President Harris would be a whole other level of bad news. We’re fucked as a nation.

There’s definitely some sloppiness involved. I do proofread at least once before posting, but later I’ll spot things I read right over without catching. I honestly do think about commas more than I used to, and I hoped I was doing at least marginally better in that regard.
The scary thing now for me is that my mistakes have catapulted into misusing words or using the wrong word in context. There is a growing disconnect between what my brain says and my fingers type. I joke about becoming Biden-esque, but I can see deterioration in many aspects of my mental acuity. Memory is really declining rapidly for example. Names, things, and places are increasingly off the radar. I guess I’ll eventually reach the point where I am unaware or no longer care, but for now, I am still trying my best.

Well, you also have to peel them. The last thing I grated was cheese. Wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Maybe I need a bigger/better grating tool.
For sure, the steep hills are a challenge in the best of circumstances. For me, the balance issues come into play more often when going down a steep hill. But yeah, there are lots of scenic options that don’t require a hard climb, so you can still have fun during your visit.

Brian, technically I could go to the barangay and file a dispute, but my odds of prevailing are probably low as a foreigner versus a wealthy and politically connected Filipino family.
There is nothing really wrong with my current digs and the place is relatively new. I did a walk-through with the agent when I moved in and documented a couple of things that have already been repaired. The building was just sold so I have a new landlord now, but so far, so good.
The place is a little cramped and a bit inconvenient, but there is nothing wrong with it. We’ll see how I feel when the lease expires next year…

Kev, yeah I guess it is technically landlords (2 brothers and a sister), but I’ve been dealing with just the one brother of late. I’m guessing the motivation may be as simple as greed coupled with ignorance. I was prepared to sign a new 3-year lease until the sister came up with the bright idea of raising my rent for no reason other than she could. Using my deposit to pay for the repairs they’ll need to make before finding another sucker to rent the place is just the next illogical step I suppose. The two houses they currently have rented are both foreigners, and at the prices they charge for rent, foreigners are their market. I’ll be happy to share my experiences with the expat community so hopefully, others can avoid my misfortune.

Hey James, yeah the Kitchentte seems to have a steady flow of customers. I think the proprietor is overwhelmed. She needs to hire an assistant. Her target clientele are Filipinos, so international travel probably won’t matter much, but if it helps the economy more locals will be able to eat out. We’ll see.
Yeah, it is nice that mama has a place to sit and enjoy a meal. She’s special!

No, it was 1000 steps. I changed it up to a kilometer for a bit of variety and because my tracker app speaks in KMs.
Yeah, those are good definitions and by those standards perhaps I’m not cut out for love anyway. I may just be too damn selfish.
And yes, I’m relieved to have not gotten sucked in (no pun intended) by the married gal. Nothing good was going to come from that.

Yeah, I’m functioning but with increasing difficulty. The phone takes the photos, but finding the camera icon on the screen in bright sunlight is more from memory than vision. It could be worse and that’s what I hope to avoid.
The goad seemed to be saying “dude, it’s hot out and you look tired. Find a nice rock and take a nap.”

No chiggers, but I’ve pulled a tick or two off the dogs. The biggest pest I’ve encountered on my hikes are ants. I hate those buggers. Their bite is usually more like a pinch, but one variety has a stinger. Got into a nest of them once and they were all over me. Yikes! I’ve been surprised that mosquitos aren’t worse than they are. I wear repellant when I’m out, but still occasionally get bit, especially in shady areas near a creek.
I’m very thankful that snakes haven’t been a problem around here. Seen a couple of dead ones on the road, but nothing on trail. There is a variety of cobra that I hope I never see. It’s funny you ask about snakes though because just yesterday I read that the only manufacturer of anti-venom in the PI is closing down. So if you do get bit now you are really screwed. Then again, if snakebites were more common here I reckon the anti-venom company wouldn’t be going out of business.
We all have to die of something I suppose, but I’m hoping for something pain-free and less traumatic than an encounter with a slivering devil in the wild.

The worst impact my poor vision has on my darts so far is I can’t tell for sure where they have landed. I think I’ve hit a triple so I move on, only to discover that it was just outside the wire. These days I’m constantly asking the scorekeeper, “ist that in?”. It must get irritating.

Nope, the sane group took the ride out to Olongapo and climbed the first part of the Hare’s trail. Two of the gals came along with me for a 10K trek that took us up Kalaklan ridge and back.

James, yeah I’m curious to see how things work out. Here in the early days of operations, it’s interesting to see if the Kitchenette is going to be popular with the crowd it is intended to serve. So far, so good. In fact, I think my friend is overwhelmed and is going to need to hire some additional staff pronto.
I’m hoping the business is successful but that truly is the extent of my interest. Yesterday, I printed those menus and dropped them off. While I was there I ordered some food to take to the girls at Cheap Charlies. Had a beer while waiting. It’s a pleasant enough venue for beer drinking so I may drop by for a cold one (or two) as part of my regular bar crawling.
Yeah, the eyesight is continuing to deteriorate. Hopefully, I can get the test results and schedule surgery this week.

Kevin, yes, it does seem that I’m always the “quid” when it comes to quid pro quo. This one has a foreigner husband and lives in a nice house, so money might not be the prime motivation for her alleged interest in me. My best guess is she is so miserable in her current relationship that she likes to escape into a fantasy life where I’m her dream man. I kind of feel sorry for her I guess which is why I haven’t been as harsh in rejecting her entreaties as I probably ought to be. And as tempting as she looks in those photographs it doesn’t change the fact that adultery is an actual crime here, so I won’t be going there.
You’d be amazed at just how often my name is misspelled, usually as Jhon. Given that John is prominently featured in the Bible you’d think it would be easy for them to learn.

Kev, the birthday is the 27th. It’s true, I usually write about the preceding day’s events, but I do make exceptions. Like when I know I’ll be incapacitated in the afternoon. I never knew about the Latin word for sex. For goodness sakes has a much more pleasant sound to me now!

Brian, yep and he is very bitter about it. He’s writing a book about the experience. He says there was exculpatory evidence that the prosecutor withheld and he hopes to expose the truth. He’s a good guy who had some bad luck, hopefully, he can salvage a decent future.
