Kev, if I brought some frozen hamburger patties I’m sure they’d be happy to cook it and throw it on a plate with some ketchup. That’s about as versatile as I’d expect.
Brandon, not sure if it is the same one, but I saw a video about the folks living in the graveyards in Manila. Shocking stuff.

Brian, I actually had a similar thought…mama dog looks nothing like her pups. Weird. And maybe it’s time to make “street dog” an official breed. It’s only fair.

Not really. The table you see has always been there but is only occupied occasionally. Most of the business is take out. Still, I’ve seen all the seats taken at the counter, so an overflow table comes in handy.

Is it always better to give than receive?
Thanks, Brian. Making things a little better for some by my being here was one of my retirement goals. So far, so good. Nice to hear about your friend’s efforts too. It’s good to give the less fortunate a chance to help themselves…a hand up versus a handout as the saying goes…

Soju, actually one of the regulars in Alley Cats bought those T-shirts for the girls on his dart team. I’m not sure any of them have actually watched Porn Hub though.
Brandon, you know it doesn’t take much to make a big difference for some of the people who are struggling to get by. I am keeping my eyes open for an opportunity to change a life–paying for a worthy student’s education for example. That was part of my thinking with the Kitchenette as well–a successful business will be there to support you long after I’m gone. We’ll see how that works out.

Yeah, you are right about that, Kevin.
People do their own thing in their own way, and to question motivations without knowing their thinking seems over the top somehow. Still, the folks who continually virtue signal about their good deeds are off-putting. I try hard not to cross that line.

HaHa! Not even close to half. But there is still time!
I asked a couple of people at the Hash tonight about the duck/pigeon thing. They never heard of it either. Shit. I hope I’m not the one who came up with that! The fact that I even remember it is scary enough.

Well, to be fair, my only “aspiration” with the gal in question was some quality time being physical. There are risks with that too, of course, including a confrontation with a jealous husband. That’s why I always ask.
Over a lifetime of broken hearts that I’ve experienced, they were all from “regular” gals–not a bargirl amongst them. So the pursuit of love thing is a perilous path wherever you look to find it. I’ve given up on that quest and will settle for some comfort in the arms of a sweet young thing now and then.

You don’t always get what you want
HaHa! Yeah, that does have a familiar ring to it. It’s a helluva life as opposed to the living hell back home.
» Posted By John McCrarey On 26/September/2021 @ 7:24 am
Yeah, but love is just a four-letter word.
The water hazard came relatively late in the hike at least. It’s not unusual to get wet shoes somewhere along the way and I’ve not heard of anyone getting blisters. Then again, I’ve never seen anyone blister up the way you often do.
I like the clean-up idea–another way to get exercise and give back to the community. It would be like pissing in the wind here though–the trash would be back within minutes.
» Posted By John McCrarey On 24/September/2021 @ 7:14 am
It was inartful wording to be sure, but yes, what I meant by “throwback” was going back to a time when I’d do the entire trail and enjoy it. The Hare kept it sane so I didn’t have to…

You know, money ruins everything. The whole charade of the “friends with benefits” idea is that we can both pretend that we are just caring and sharing with each other. Negotiating price ruins the illusion that I’m not paying for sex.
» Posted By John McCrarey On 22/September/2021 @ 8:25 am
Yes, it seems I’m destined to live in interesting times.
A quick update: The lunch date contacted me and wanted to talk about how much I was willing to pay. I told her I was no longer interested. And that was that. I don’t expect I’ll hear from her again. So much for the pretense of friendship.

Kev, I’m an old-school slut myself, and Happy has a long way to go to reach that level of fulfillment. Hey, everybody’s got to start somewhere but even most beginners LIKE the act of learning. This poor girl doesn’t want to be touched, let alone give or receive pleasure. I’m sad for her in that regard. And yes, just laying there passively like a starfish is exactly what she had in mind. No thank you!
QP, Believe it or not, I’m actually pretty selective in who I bring home. As for my, ahem, “taste” in women, when I mention bargirls I’m not talking about the prostitutes you can rent in the girly bars. The bars I normally frequent don’t have “take out” and the gals are just there to earn drink commissions and keep you company. And yes, I paid Happy for at least trying to do something she obviously hates. Desperation defined!
Dave, you are right these gals are not pros at massage. I usually make the job offer in response to not-so-subtle hints of money woes. If they are willing to work for the cash, I’m willing to oblige them. It’s also a way to avoid the whole paying for sex stigma. On those occasions where the massage ends happily (for me), it seems almost natural with no shame involved for the gal. That only happens maybe 50% of the time though. Well, I hope the Youthair works out for an old cunt like you! 🙂

Wow, I haven’t woken up to this many comments in I don’t know how long! Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Kev, yep I do my internet explorations with my morning coffee and post on the blog after my nap and before my beer drinking rituals. That leaves the morning sweet spot to hike. Or not, as the case may be.
James, thanks for the compliment. I was born an anxious Californian but saw the writing on the wall in 1978 and fled to Arizona. One of my better life choices for sure. Not sure what is up with the lack of energy, it may or may not be related to the eye surgery. Or old age. The big guy is Martin and he’s a regular. Even plays darts. I do try not to intrude on the business (she doesn’t listen anyway) but it’s not a bad after-darts venue for a cold one. She hasn’t asked for more money since the initial expenses of opening, so there’s that. Oh, and as for the fake names, yeah, I’m doing that. As much for plausible deniability as anything–“no, I swear I wasn’t talking about you!”
Terry, sounds like a play on the old “less is more” saw. I like it!
Dave, I don’t FEEL 20 years younger, unfortunately. Oddly enough, only a few people seem to have noticed my new glasses-free look. And I have seen no uptick in female interest in my face (the wallet is still popular though). The grey hair is there, but I use a hair treatment called Youthair that restores natural color without dye. No, there is no corkage charged because the beer bar is already overcharging customers at 70 pesos a beer. I understand the beer drinkers have been tipping pretty generously though.

Brian, I’ll take your word for it on the brain thing. I had a brain scan recently and it came back negative. And I just realized your name is a misspelling of brain!
Yeah, the dog situation here is a mess. They get that mange which must itch like crazy, then eventually lose all their fur. Lots of hungry dogs running around on the street too. And even when a dog is “lucky” enough to have an owner that provides food I see so many tied up on a 3-foot long leash. What a life.
» Posted By John McCrarey On 19/September/2021 @ 6:50 am
QP, precisely. One of my goals in life is to never see the inside of a Filipino jail. That was one of the factors in my choosing not to drive here. Any accident is always the foreigners’ fault anyway and God help me if I’d had a beer or two. Not worth it. I love the ladies but there are much better options than a married one.

Or maybe she is just batshit crazy.
Yeah, a few weeks ago she started messaging again. Much more aggressively in the sense that she was professing her undying love in flowery terms of endearment. I know I’m just a fantasy escape from her otherwise unhappy life. I actually feel a little sorry for her. She sent some sexy photos and I admit I was tempted. Then I thought about the potential consequences and told myself “nope.”
I concede that I misused “harangue” but this is what was in my head when I chose that word. Yesterday, she sent me a message saying she was going to Driftwood Beach at 10:30 to clear her head and think. I told her “enjoy.” Later she wrote saying she had only stayed a few minutes because she was hoping I was going to meet her there. See what I mean about her fantasy world? Later in the day, she asked me why I had called her (on the messenger app we use for texting) and I said it had been an accident, a butt dial. Her response floored me–don’t say it was an accident, tell me the truth! That pissed me off and I said “don’t you EVER call me a liar!” She eventually apologized but I ignored her. Her last message was along the lines of “I understand now and see things as they are.” Then she wished me a happy life and haven’t heard from her since.
I guess I should start watching TV whenever I want some drama in my life…

Well, I do at least appreciate the heads up on power outages so I can plan accordingly. Usually, things just go black and I’m in the dark about when power will be restored. A lot of people in the neighborhood have backup generators, but really the outages are infrequent enough where I can’t be bothered.
Yes, the trashing of the natural beauty here is exactly what I meant. That pile of trash in the photo is a designated drop-off location. What? Put actually trash containers out? Never considered it. Government is part of the problem for sure.
Good luck on your trip to the East Coast today. Let the journey begin!
» Posted By John McCrarey On 17/September/2021 @ 6:36 am
Kev, yeah, this “problem” is of my own making. Once again, my fantasies didn’t align with reality.
QP, indeed that is the safest and easiest course of action to pursue.
Brian, the repaired eye was 20-20 (at least I was able to read the smallest letters displayed), not sure how that equates to my overall eyesight. I’m seeing the doctor this morning and I’m going to ask if I can expect gradual improvement. Otherwise, I’m going to need to get fitted for new glasses.
» Posted By John McCrarey On 16/September/2021 @ 6:05 am
I’m not in total disagreement with you Brian. I’m just calling BS on this whole governmental reaction to COVID beginning with the worthless lockdowns to “flatten the curve”. Now, the vaccinations they are pushing are not really vaccinations in the classic sense because they do not provide immunity. I was actually talking to a doctor friend about this last night (he shares your views on vaccination by the way) and he said it is an unfortunate word choice. He calls it an inoculation–a shot that lessens the risk should you be infected.
The government simply has no credibility.
» Posted By John McCrarey On 16/September/2021 @ 5:56 am
Kev, good stuff. I like the idea of “code words”. I’ll need to work on some. CATastrophe will be a good one for falling in love. My high school girlfriend calls eating pussy “pumpkin pie”, so I’ve already got that one! Anyway, I just need to do a better job masking identities I think. We’ll see how that works out.
Brian, to be clear, I’m not anti-vax and never have been. In fact, I got a jab for everything the doc could think of before moving here. The key thing is, the government didn’t order me to do so–my body, my choice right? And if the COVID vacine is so wonderful, why does it matter if I get the jab or not–you should be immune to the virus. Instead, even after you’ve been vaccinated nothing changes–still have to wear the mask and still not immune. I think a lot of people are resisting because they can see through the bullshit–COVID kills less than 1/2 of 1% of people who catch it. Why are we in panic mode? Something ain’t right here. Again, I’m sure I’ll get a vaccination at some point–not because I’m afraid of getting COVID or spreading it–I just want to get on with my life, and traveling was a big part of my retirement plan.

There are lots of cuties here, glad my vision is better to see them with. Housing costs are generally cheaper than in the USA.

If I couldn’t stand the heat I wouldn’t be in the kitchen! 🙂
» Posted By John McCrarey On 14/September/2021 @ 7:26 am
Thanks, Kev. Yeah, doing a shower with my eyes wide shut is the way I’m going to go.
I put on my old glasses this morning and I can’t see out of them–everything is a blurry mess. I’ll call that progress!
» Posted By John McCrarey On 13/September/2021 @ 7:32 am
Dave, it serves inexpensive Filipino food, but not buffet-style like Rico’s used to do. This is more of a fancy roadside kitchen where most of the items are prepared to order. The girls from Thumbstar and Mango’s are regulars now.
Yes, Alaska remains open, but they have very few customers. Jerry is doing an act of charity I think letting the girls earn a small salary and live in the stay-in. Coincidentally, I was at the Kitchenette last night and asked if the Alaska girls had been coming to eat. Maris told me they can’t because they don’t have money. That made me sad, so I invited them to come over for dinner and I picked up the tab. Made seven gals happy for less than 1000 pesos. I enjoyed seeing the smiles on their faces.
Life is good!
» Posted By John McCrarey On 13/September/2021 @ 7:28 am
Pretty much was. Wearing these goggles, so no glasses. The “new” eye still ain’t recovered from the surgery trauma enough to be functional. Back to the doctor this morning for a follow-up.

Yes, I was in high school when the Kent State killings took place radicalized me in the wrong direction for a while, but you live and learn. I haven’t voted for a Democrat since 9/11.
» Posted By John McCrarey On 12/September/2021 @ 5:24 pm
Thanks, Brian. I’m hoping the surgery is a success.
As to the divorce, I get a decent tax advantage by filing a joint return. I’m also able to carry the wife on my health insurance. Mostly though it is just a pain in the ass to get divorced that I don’t want to deal with right now. Actually, wouldn’t know how to go about it from here. She’s the one who wanted the divorce, she can file for it is my attitude.

«« Back To Stats PageJames, I am truly impressed! Your attention to detail is amazing. Yes, the big guy is a new arrival in town. His name is Martin and he seems like a really nice guy. A fellow Californian, not that I take much pride in that heritage these days. And yes, I’m not sure what his fitness goals are, but he carries that bulk well. Looking forward to getting to know him better, he even came out for darts the other night.
As to the love life, damned if I know what’s going to happen next. Joy is a no-go because of her young kids (3 and 1). Pearl is intriguing, but also scary. Could be she is out of my league. I’ve wanted to get with Marick for years, and only recently has she seemed receptive. And then she makes a point of introducing me to Joy. It’s all so confusing. Stay tuned for the next episode!
I’ll consider your idea for a series on the characters of Barretto. Got to say though that this is such a small town I’m not sure I could disguise the true identities sufficiently. I’m honestly already a little nervous about some of what I post here. I don’t tell many locals about the blog (back in the day, I’d post links to LTG on Facebook. No more!). Still, I’ve had at least two people in Barretto that I don’t know come up and say they found my blog through some Google search. I need to be careful!
Thanks for reading, James. And I appreciate your paying attention to the details of this life of mine in paradise.
