Dan, basically manslaughter. He intervened when a drunk Korean was grabbing a girl’s pussy in the bar. The Korean wound up dead after he fell and hit his head. The prosecutor accused Jeremy of hitting him in the head and causing the death. Jeremy had evidence to the contrary, but a foreigner in a Korean court in a case that was all over the news didn’t have much hope for a fair trial.

Yeah, I’m always amazed at how many people I run into that see, to know me. Happened on my hike yesterday. Some random gal calls out “where ya been, John?” Of course, I almost never recognize them. I just smiled and asked, “where do I know you from again?” Turns out she works in Hideaway, a bar I might visit once a month or so. Ah, small-town living–everyone knows your name!
Yes, the country has reopened to tourists. A lot of the long-time expats who’ve been stuck at home are back now. More and more I’m seeing the “two-week millionaires” showing up in the bars again too. And yes, it does take the pressure off of me somewhat. It’s hard when you are the only wallet in town and the girls are desperate.

About those hills, Kevin. They serve to remind me that while life certainly has its ups and downs, there is always beauty to be found if you are willing to look for it. Or so I keep telling myself!

Yeah, we do have our ups and downs in the Hash!
This is probably the hottest time of the year, or at least the time with few clouds and rainfall. You can feel the difference when you don’t have shade. That’s one thing about the hills, usually lots of trees. You do get used to the heat though, or at least I don’t seem to notice it so much anymore.

Kev, technically that makes three comments, but who’s counting? Yeah, I read that about Covid impacting senility. It might be true in my case–I have deja vu and dementia. I keep forgetting the same things over and over.
Brian, there was an Aeta village nearby that we passed through later in the hike. I noticed there was a school there, so these kids are lucky. Where I was yesterday has no school (nor electricity) and the kids have to be shipped off to school in Subic via Banca boat at the parents’ expense.

It hadn’t occurred to me that I did a figure 8-hike, but yeah, I can see it now. And lechon is most likely is that pig’s destiny. A nice birthday feast or one of the food stands around here is probably the destination.

So many beaches, so little time
Kev, yeah I had no idea the beach walk would be that wet. Last time I did it you could avoid the water. Yesterday was high tide, so no luck.
Brian, well I don’t think I’m quite THAT bad, but I might be trying too hard. Meeting someone like Jenny is pretty rare so I can’t help but think about the potential and possibilities. Still a LONG way from feeling love, but a little closer to wanting it. A girl like Novi would be a lot of fun as a companion I think, but probably more in the “good times” category than as a partner. A lot of my posts are thinking out loud as opposed to well-thought-out plans and objectives. That’s why I always appreciate it when my readers share their insights–I do listen even if my actions make it appear otherwise.

Well, I didn’t actually do that portion of the trail on Monday. I’d gone out that morning to do some marking enhancements and did the first half with the group that afternoon. I believe this photo was taken by my co-Hare Pubic Head. Those Hashers would have been ahead of the photographer on the trail though.

Yeah, as I recall the tone of the movie and the TV show were quite a bit different. If I remember right, the song with words was only played during the final TV episode. I did enjoy both versions of the program though.

When I make my pulled pork in the slow cooker, it is immersed in the sauces and spices, so it comes out red and damp. John’s was comparatively dry, but not dry in the sense that it wasn’t tasty or flavorful-just different. My only real complaint was not enough bbq sauce to pour on top, but then again I didn’t care enough to ask for more, so that’s on me.

Brian, well, one thing about a paid relationship is you can require an acceptable work ethic and job skills. I’m not sure the gal who offered to work under me would meet all of my requirements. Still, I’m not totally rejecting the concept.

Thanks, Nate. Good to hear from you! Yeah, good advice. Sometimes you get so wrapped up in the drama you forget to check in with reality. I’m going to try and remember that I have the power to be happy, it doesn’t come from someone else. Wish we could pull up a stool in Shenanigans and talk it over.
Brian, hadn’t noticed the stools instead of chairs in the restaurant. Looking again, I see there are some chairs with backs at the window counter. That’s where I’d sit anyway to enjoy the view!

Yes, the lease at The Pub location ran out, so he upped and moved the entire operation over the weekend. I had always disliked the ambiguity at the old location between whether it was a restaurant or bar. I’d go in to eat sometimes and there was a pool tournament going on and nowhere to sit. Those days are over now.
That’s really a sushi kitchen I suppose. But yes, he hired a real sushi chef. I’m not a big sushi guy but I’m told by others that it is top-notch.

Yes, I was (am) a fan of their music. Hell, I owned every Neil Young album he ever made (yeah, I’m talkin’ vinyl). I try not to think of the politics when I listen to his music these days.
As to music being my “holy scripture”, I’d never considered that concept before or what I might have learned through my worship. Perhaps my ephinany is simply that I am not alone–every emotion I’ve ever felt has been expressed by someone far more talented than me in lyrics. There is comfort in that shared experience.

Brian, those loose rocks can be tricky, that’s for sure. I actually never walk home after drinking though, so alcohol is not an issue. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the bars, so around a kilometer.

Thanks, Brian. Yeah, I really do need to take a trip out of town. Some places I’ve been wanting to see. I haven’t been vaxxed so flying may not be an option. But the Hash streak isn’t really my priority–the 120 straight Mondays on trail is a reflection of my pandemic prison sentence. Once my freedom is restored I’ll be back to three or four international trips a year.

Culturally it seems the environment is of little concern to the Filipino people. Litter abounds, burning trash that isn’t littered, polluting rivers, all par for the course.
Yeah, still have the long-defunct Marmot Hole on the sidebar too, been too lazy to do the deletions. I did bookmark Liberty Call and will make it a daily visit henceforth. Thanks again!
