The bars are just a block away; I’ll wait for you there. 🙂I’ve only had one in-depth conversation with mama, but I’d wager she does have an interesting story. She’s a local icon, popularly known as the “umbrella lady.” Whenever I see her, she thanks me with an “I love you, papa.” Makes my day!

Yeah, I don’t engage in political debates on FB like I did in the old days. I’ll pass some time there reading about the lives of my “friends” I haven’t seen for years (my high school sweetheart, for example). I was just shocked to see how far FB has gone to support and protect the narrative of our ruling elites. To say anything in what I posted put someone in “physical danger” is so far over the top that it seems like satire.
I actually think FB and the other big social media companies should be considered a public utility and subject to 1st Amendment sanctions. Or maybe Elon can buy them out, too.

I’ve always called beans “frijoles” in Spanish. When I first read your comment, I thought you were saying I shouldn’t have used the “j.” Rather than go back and re-read my post, I looked up “frijoles” to prove I was correct. I was all prepared to launch this comment with a “got ya!” and then I saw what you were actually saying. And then, I checked and realized that I had indeed unintentionally misspelled the word. The mistake was a typo, but I proofread right past it at least once, so once again, the fuck up is mine and inexcusable.
Yeah, Facebook sucks, and I don’t engage there much these days, but it is still a tool in my box. I belong to several groups, including the Hash, where information about upcoming events is posted. I also find it a convenient way to upload photos from my phone so I can save them to the hard drive on my laptop.
I knew the censorship on FB was out of control, but I was shocked that that post from Austrailia was deemed to “be potentially physically harmful” because of COVID misinformation. George Orwell would be shocked that Zuckerturd took his writing as a “how-to” guide rather than a warning. The Aussie simply pointed out that the demonization of the unvaxxed was wrong and that, with hindsight, they were proven right. The only harm that does is to the police state’s narrative.
Oh well, it’s a wake-up call for sure, and we need to find alternative ways to spread the word. Maybe blogs will make a comeback!

Looks like I can butcher both American and British English equally well. Wot’s up with that?Yeah, I’m glad I was able to get enough perspective in the photo so you could see the falls were quite high. Rainy season hasn’t kicked in yet, but it won’t be long until there is a much greater volume of water cascading down. Of course, that spot may not be accessible when the water level rises.
Yeah, Tom will need a mask in limited situations; I am still required to mask up at the Royal grocery store, for example. No issue with being maskless at 7/11. Guess that’s why it is a convenience store–COVID need not apply. No one has said anything to me since I’ve gone exclusively maskless outdoors–not even the cops I occasionally walk past. It’s such a farce; why do they even bother?

No real insect problem other than an occasional beetle. I think the lizards and geckos handle those duties. I actually didn’t want to have to kill the spider but I knew I’d always wonder where he was if I didn’t.

All I really know about the vaccine is that it is ineffective at best and harmful at worse. I’m not afraid of COVID and don’t want the government telling me what I have to do with my body. Reasonable people can disagree of course.
Yes, the Hashmobile has been used to provide assistance in the community, mostly moving household goods. Probably on a break-even basis, so not a money maker. I agree renting a vehicle as needed is the smartest course of action and one we will be trying in the immediate future at least.

Hey Kev, yes, the SRRV was what I originally intended to do. The bureaucratic hassles involved in getting it done put me off to the point of saying fuck it, I’ll just go the tourist visa route. I expected I’d be leaving the country three or four times a year for recreational travel anyway, so the three years wouldn’t be a factor. Then the scamdemic came along. I may still pursue an SRRV in the future, but I’ll use a “fixer” to do all the leg work.
I think the lack of response can be a good thing when the only motivation for contacting you in the first place was self-interest. Why are so many women attempting to get me to break Rule #1 lately? Last night I had to block another one because I got weary of the persistent begging. Like I told her in my final message, “I never hear from you unless you want something. That’s not the kind of friend I want or need.”
Everything changes. I won’t be surprised if the Hash at some point acquires another vehicle, but it makes no sense to keep paying for repairs on a worn-out piece of shit.

Brian, I haven’t played CIV for years now. I think the last version I had was CIV IV. Back in those days, I played off a CD in the disc drive. My laptop doesn’t even have one of those. I guess the new versions are downloaded.
Anyway, I was a fanatic and really enjoyed the nuances involved in successfully building a civilization. Have fun!

I hope I passed your test, though.I’ve never really thought about “past” and “passed,” and using the correct version always seemed to come naturally. I didn’t really have any trouble with your test either. I guess I just don’t trust my brain anymore, but when I wrote: “Sally from The Green Room called out to us as we hiked past her house.” and then later, “We called out to Julica as we passed by her place.” it seemed I was saying the same thing two different ways. I actually did look it up and got the definitions you gave, but I was still unsure, hence the editor’s note I left. So, I’m going to say that both my examples are correct, but I can’t tell you why.

No, I don’t know of anyone who hikes at night. The trails are far too treacherous, with potential hazards that are hard to see even in daylight. Being stuck out there after dark is one of my nightmares. Hell, I don’t even walk home on the pavement at night.
Yeah, I’ll keep on walking. And drinking. The bookends of my days here.

I will have to vacation somewhere out of the country before December. Right now, my first choice is probably Cambodia. There are also some Hash events in Thailand I’d consider attending. I would really like to go back to Vietnam again too.

Last week was effectively the championship–we went head-to-head with the second-place team. Yesterday was the last scheduled game of the season against an also-ran that was meaningless in terms of the final standings.

Wracked what’s left of my brain, trying to remember shwimteo. Asking Google for “Korean huts” brought me pics, but no one used the Korean name for them that I could find. Well, I’ve been doing stupid stuff more frequently lately, especially when I write. And my memory ain’t what it used to be either–I can’t remember all the things I’ve forgotten! (luckily, my sense of humor remains intact)
I may well be in the 10-20% who enter Biden-land. But honestly, if dementia means being stupid and not knowing it, how bad can it be? My biggest fear is breaking down physically and losing the ability to go out and do all the things I enjoy. Not going to fret about it, though; just going to take each day as it comes and keep on keeping on as long as I can.

Well, I didn’t go that far! I took out a lot of my improvements/additions though. Got about half of my deposit back which is more than I expected. The house sat vacant for 9 months, but it is rented now.

Damn, missed that. I’m not sure what happened, but some glitch randomly deleted letters from words in several places of this post. I thought I had caught them all. As for Cincinnati, I have no idea why spell check let me get away with that abomination. I think I had the spelling so mangled it didn’t recognize what I was trying to say.

Yes, the braces on her teeth were the first thing I noticed when we met. It was more of a job interview than a girlfriend test, though. She wants to be my masseuse, and I wanted to meet in person before inviting her into my house. She seems sane enough.
As to being a walking ATM, I do think I have a reputation as being a soft touch. The gals I helped out yesterday are all “friends,” at least in the sense that I’ve known them for a while. Unmentioned in this post were a couple of other requests for help that I ignored. You’ve got to pick and choose and trust your gut as to who is the most worthy. You can’t help them all.

Yeah, something doesn’t smell right for sure. The widow wanted an almost immediate cremation, and the police tried to deem it a suicide from day 1. JR’s best friend was able to get some outside eyes looking at this, and at least there was an autopsy. Everyone is awaiting the results, and the delay in releasing them is also suspicious. Hopefully, justice will prevail.
I rode that cable car several times and always enjoyed it, but yeah, you can’t help thinking about the “what ifs.” Of course, I never knew about those previous crashes you mentioned, so my ignorance was bliss.
Your Tagalog vocabulary is nearly equal to mine! I usually don’t have any problem identifying a bakla–the broad shoulders and exaggerated female walk are giveaways. Now, a friend of mine is dating a bakla and thinks she is a real girl. I asked what makes you think she is a woman? He said, “I don’t know, I can just feel it inside of me…” Joke lang.
