One of the saddest things about the D-turd fiasco is how he bamboozled an army of foolish sycophants to do his bidding and continue to idolize him despite thoroughly undermining the rule of law with mass murder and harming regional security by shamelessly selling out to China and severely straining relations with the US. John, now that Trump is in office, “Harris would have been worse” may indeed be true but is utterly pointless. Trump’s in charge now and he’s fucking shit up. Does the number of people who voted for him somehow change that? Come on.
I have yet to see any credible report whatsoever of actual “fraud, waste, and abuse” at USAID. All I’ve seen is partisan voices claiming, and parroting without critical thinking, very vague allegations that amount to an ideological disagreement at best, or more likely just a load of baseless malarkey.
It’s much cheaper and easier to buy friends than kill enemies. And we tend to sleep better. This shit ain’t rocket science.
Unfortunate for the next generation that will be stuck with the tab.

Great time to butcher USAID and undermine US soft power in the region so China can waltz in and spread cash around for influence like in Cambodia and the Solomons. Also flip the script on Ukraine so US can be seen as an unreliable ally that’s not to be trusted anywhere. Biden just wasn’t weak enough.

But I’m really not clear on what, specifically, we’re disagreeing on, unless you sincerely believe a president can unilaterally nullify a constitutional provision you disagree with via mere executive order. I don’t think Trump himself really believes that, but he does revel in distracting spectacle to excite his followers.

I’m eagerly waiting for Musk to actually uncover some specific alleged fraud or waste that would justify the irreparable harm he and Trump are so cavalierly causing our nation. John, your J6 points are so riddled with utter falsehoods and baseless conjecture that I frankly feel a little embarrassed for you.
You loathed Biden and supported Trump. I get it. You’re not alone. But it’s important to recognize that Trump constantly, knowingly, and blatantly lies, as do many media minions. (And that dynamic was largely responsible for J6, after all: He lost the election and lied about it, and some chose to amplify the lie or merely swallow it without question). Now that he’s back in office, it’s important to see clearly, no matter how much you may support his various policies and positions.
Not all J6 participants were violent, and many did simply trespass on the fringe of a destructive mob bent on illegally thwarting the democratic process. Mob psychology tends to make individuals feel less responsible for their own actions, and that’s what makes mobs so dangerous. But “everyone else was doing it” is no defense.
Perhaps some were treated more harshly than warranted. But to even suggest that Trump cut loose only the nonviolent participants is just preposterous.
Those who participated in J6 were either criminals, damned fools, or both. Absolving them of responsibility is a disgraceful coda to one of the most disgraceful days in our nation’s history.

I would have liked to see more aggressive prosecution of BLM rioters too, but that’s really beside the point. You don’t get to trash the nation’s capitol because you’re unhappy that your candidate lost (and he did lose, make no mistake), or because other thugs got away with something unrelated. Blanket pardons of this nature are a serious affront to civilized American law enforcement, and a terrible precedent.

Even worse, Biden also commuted the sentence of a man convicted of executing two FBI agents and sentenced to two consecutive life terms. Even Clinton and Obama had refused to do so.
But none of Biden’s crap makes Trump’s J6 pardons smell any better. Rioting inside our nation’s capitol and injuring law enforcement officers was beyond the pale. No excuses.
Trump’s move does not bode well for the return to law and order, common sense, and improved governance and national security that so many Americans are hoping for.

Hong Kong has changed quite a bit since the Brits split in ‘97, let me tell you, and it ain’t for everyone. It’s almost like they were never there. There’s still a nice time to be had, but you’ll usually have to pay real money for it.
If the crowds, pace, Chinese manners, and money-grubbing atmosphere get to be too much, here’s two recommendations: Ride the Star Ferry, which costs next to nothing and provides some brief respite, fresh-ish air and nice views of the harbor. Also, take a different ferry to nearby Cheung Chau island, where there are no cars but lots of easy and paved walking paths and waterfront seafood and booze opportunities at reasonable prices.
