The real McCoy

If you hadn’t labeled that a taco I would have struggled to identify it lol. Reminds me of the time a got “nachos”in Korea, which were pringles with mayo and ketchup.

Stormy

The sidewalks are like ice rinks during the rain.. I took a tumble on Wednesday night. Luckily, all I got was a dirty shirt and some embarrassment.

May the 4th be with you

I will be up San Fernando later this month but, probably not Subic. Seems to be hotter this year, it’s going to take a few days to get used to this humidity.

Santa’s sweets

Reminds me of an old bar I used to go, it had liquor in the back and poker in the rear!

Hello in there

I hate to be a killjoy but, running a bar there is not all it is cracked up to be. There will a lot of local officials dropping by with their hands out and not to mention jealous business owners if you do well. Also don’t forget about dealing with drunks and poor work ethic/stealing by staff.

It is doable but, do you really want the stress of it all and the inevitable “expenses” that will definitely pop up. It does look like a decent venue however, I thought I would play devil’s advocate on this one.

Is it always better to give than receive?

I think you are doing fine with your acts of generosity. There are a lot of cheap and cranky folks in the Philippines. Their treatment of locals is sometimes shocking. When in the country I try to help people a little bit as well. I keep it to myself and require no one’s approval, much like yourself.

Charitably speaking

I would think there is more to the Alley Cats new hire than you think. Constant drama surrounding bar staff.

Oh, that’s good!

Thailand is making it extremely difficult to live there as an expat. So many hoops to jump through … I do enjoy it there but, it is not worth the effort at this time.

I was supposed to make a quick trip to Manila at the end of April and then back for all of July and August. I scrapped the April one and I think July is in jeopardy as well. Interesting times we are living in.

I got robbed!

Live and learn at least everything was easily replaceable. Just remember there is always someone watching your comings and goings in the phils. A motion sensor light outside the patio doors would be handy. Leave a light on and even the tv/radio when you go out.

I got robbed in Korea one time, I think it was the apartment painters. I lost my jar of 500’s!

Life and death

Seems like Mr.McLaren was not happy with the business deal. Stay safe! I met many shady foreigners this summer. Sometimes the lone wolf thing is the best method.

What a Wednesday

Sorry John! But I had a comment for Kevin’s blog and can’t seem to post there.
The seal under your toilet is the problem … the damage you’re seeing is the caulking which is not a great idea because it prevents signs of leakage. The “plumber” needs to lift the toilet and replace the seal. It is usually made of wax and eventually cracks. Not a big deal but, I would turn off the toilet water supply when you’re away.

Kevin, do they have air fryers in Korea? I was skeptical at first but I am quite happy with it. Does a fine job on chicken wings.

The rain has finally arrived in Manila, dealing with multiple pairs of wet shoes…

A question for you.. why can I never remember to take my umbrella from bar to bar? I need an umbrella budget!
