Not ready for prime time…

So, Obama made a fool of himself at the UN this week.  Or as Rich Lowry puts it, he came across as a “gullible sap”.  Same, same.

Has an American president ever expressed such implicit hostility toward his own nation’s pre-eminence in world affairs? Or so relished in recalling its failings, or so readily elevated himself and his own virtues over those of his country?

Between America and the world, Obama adopts a happy medium. It is in this sense only that he is a centrist.

“For those who question the character and cause of my nation,” Obama said, “I ask you to look at the concrete actions we have taken in just nine months.” In other words, he’s the redeemer of a nation sunk in war crimes (we condoned torture), high-handedness (we ignored the United Nations) and hypocrisy (we promoted democracy selectively) prior to the ascension of his blessed administration.

  1. What was he supposed to do? Brag about torture? Threaten to start a war on another front? I have no issue with speaking softly and carrying a big stick. The “cowboy” foreign policy of “you or either with us or against us” doesn’t really accomplish much. I personally don’t want to be viewed as a Imperialist country that shoots first and ask questions later. Most people must agree because, against all odds, Obama was elected president. It was more a vote for against Bush than a vote for him in many cases.

You can tell that column was in a Rupert Murdoch publication. This has been one of the talking points on Fox News Channel too. “Fair and Balanced” indeed. I don’t understand what is so hard to comprehend about a president that acknowledges he doesn’t agree with the previous policy and states he plans to change it. He isn’t saying America is bad or evil. He is just saying he wants work with others to make it and the world a better place. Is this going to make everyone love us? Of course not, there will always be evil people in this world. But at least he can say he tried. I find the new approach refreshing.

    Just my take.

  2. I find the new approach far less than American. Once again attack Bush. As I’ve said, Liberals have 5 arguements. 1. Bush did this. 2. Bush did that. 3. It’s all Bushs fault. 4. You are a racist. 5. We won! Not a one of them addresses the issue at hand. I, as most people in America, are tired of the appology tour. This guy surrounds himself with socialist and communist and you act like that is so cool. Sorry Kev but I could not disagree more. And as to the reference to Murdoch, funny how his media outlets are destroying the MSM in ratings.

  3. ” ‘No nation can or should try to dominate another nation,” That doesn’t sound particulary hostile. I watched the speech and as always, Obama was eloquent. Regardless of what you think of the man or his policies, it must be acknowledged that he is articulate and an incredible speaker. This is one area where the man shines. Lowry and the naysayers at FOX are grasping at straws and their desparation shows.

  4. Unbelievable! You are more concerned with his being articulate than his policies. The same could be said of Hitler. He has thrown Poland, The Chez Republic and Israel under the bus in one week and yet he gives a good speech. Qaddafi says he’s like a son. Chavez says he’s so glad Obama is the president. Castro loves him. Ahmadinejad says screw you Obama we are building a nuke and wiping Israel off the earth. Yet Obama can sure talk.

  5. I heard Obama, Qaddafi, Chavez and Castro play golf together every Tuesday and during the rounds they plot ways to destroy demcocracy.

  6. “No nation can or should try to dominate another nation”.

C’mon Fortuneate. I’ll agree there is nothing hostile in that statement. It’s just plain ignorant. Maybe in some Pollyannish world view you could say no nation “should” dominate another, but if The One truly believes no nation “can” we are in for a world of hurting.

Kevin, mock all you want, but when Qaddafi, Chavez and Castro are heaping praise on Obama at the same time Obama is dissing our long time allies, I think it is cause for concern.

  7. Save your breath, Frank and you too, John.

I’ve been reading comments by those two for long enough to recognize that they are both half-truthers and definitely hopeless.

They’re as sad in their views as this god-forsaken administration we’re probably gonna have to fight our way out of.

Just come on 2010 elections, and not too soon for me. Maybe we can dispose of some of these idiots then, the rest in 2012, if we last that long, that is.

  8. Regarding Frank’s post #7, above.

Great reference, Frank. In the past when I read commentary out of Russia (Soviet Union) I found it pretty much laughable……but times have changed and this one you linked to has, unfortunately, a lot of truth in it.

The speed of the collapse we seem to be experiencing has been stunning, (therefore, seems clear to me, how could it not have been planned) though if one scratches a bit below the surface, thought probably preventable, it nearly seems to be or to have been almost inevitable given the decline of our school systems, moral values and any number of other dimensions of our culture. Still though, many of our people, most it seems in fact, are in a kind of denial about it if not totally oblivious to include a few otherwise bright but hopelessly deluded ones who post to this board. It’s worse than a shame, IMV, its a sad, sad loss.

Please consider to post the entire text of the article so that maybe a few others might read it as well.

The administration’s hypocrisy along with the US’s in general is showing in all it’s ugliness, I fear.

I find myself wondering and I ask myself from time to time, why me? Why was I borne into this time..??….and further wondering how often others in the past over the waxes and wanes of past cultures might have asked themselves similarly.

  9. Holy Cow! You are buying into Russian propaganda?!

This guy states that Americans have lost their faith in God and yet a recent poll concluded that 92% of all Americans believe in God.

This guy reviles Wall Street for pouring money into the fists fo Marxists. What? Wall Street makes money for investors especially those wealthy enough to invest heavily. Does he even have the same understanding of Marxism that we do?

This guy says that the preparation for the decline of capitalism has been taking place for the past century. You really believe that? Maybe in your school you actually did study TV shows rather than To Kill a Mockingbird or Walt Whitman. I can tell you I received a good enough education to recognize when someone is simply being insulting to my country and its people.

  10. Here again, the parsing of words.

    READ THE QUOTE

” a lot of truth in it”…. can you manage to find those words in my post? Please? I would underline them for you but John’s edit package doesn’t allow it.

Surely you are objective enough to find parts that are true and others that are not true in the article? But maybe not.

In my experience, it seems to me that this is how liberals try to win at all cost – even at the cost of revealing their own hypocrisy. They wear out sane people and continually muddy the water with their idiotic hypocritical attacks, so much so that sane people just leave the fix because as Ann Coulter (perhaps a nemesis) says, Liberalism is a Mental Disorder and it’s mostly no use trying to use sane logic with a liberal.

And by the way, to your point about preparation for the decline that is now swamping our country, while I would not characterize what is happening the way that was done in the article, certainly it has been going on for a long time. Obviously the article is meant to demean and smear the US, even a fairly uninformed person can see that, but there are many elements of truth in it, and that’s what I said.

To a separate point, I tried to make a point some time back that some people, particularly liberals I seem to have found, try to find even one piece of error in an otherwise pretty sound analysis…..not that this particular one fits that criterion, but the point pertains….. and they use that error to discredit the entire piece and to “throw the baby out with the bath water” – I further offered that this is why Inspector’s General have what is known as “murder boards” before they out-brief an inspection – to find that error and offset that potentiality to the degree possible. As I have said in the past, you have pointed out such error continually in your posts on this board and are obviously doing it now again with more half-truth parsing. I don’t know if you can understand what I am saying, it seems not, and perhaps are in denial or just too liberal to care, but how you can’t see these things but focus energies on such fraud I simply can not understand.

And yes, I’ll give you the last word so that you, too, can win.

    Go for it.
