Better late than never

Well, let’s hope that’s the case.  Still smoke free for 2010 and I was sorely tested during Monday’s darts fiasco.  And I’m trying to eat better.  No, I am eating better–lots of fruits and veggies and next to no sweets (even forgoing ice cream!).  And thus far I’ve managed to spend time on the treadmill four or five days a week.

Can I keep it up?  Hell if I know.  I don’t expect to give in on the cigarettes.  And I’m kinda liking what I’ve been eating.  The exercise? well that’s a chore.  It’s a means to an end–namely, the end of a goodly portion of this belly I’ve been lugging around. That’s the goal anyway.
Something about pending retirement is a great motivator.  Meaning, I’d like to live long enough to draw my pension and soak up the sun for a good long time.

Wish me luck!

  1. Good on ya buddy…

The smoking thing gets easier and easier as the days go by. My big thing for that was the mornings after a bender/smoke fest – what a difference.

Keep it up. I am on the same trip for exercise and eating better. Having good luck with the eating – got a good cookbook and the stuff in it is healthy and *gasp* good!

  2. Good Luck! I’m impressed. My stop date for smoking is February 4th but I have stopped and started about six times since July. Hopefully with medication and a support group-yeah I signed up for one-I’ll make it this time.

  3. Well, this is quite a change from when I saw you in September, and you said you weren’t going to be making any lifestyle changes. Good for you! You will definitely feel a lot better. I think we need to take a lesson from Mom and Dad, and hew to the lament “If I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.”

  4. Do what you love. Raquetball or softball? Treadmill won’t be a long term life style change. I know from experience. I’m proud of you though. I know no smoking is tough, especially in a social enviroment. One of the benefits of no smoking bars in South Carolina!

  5. Hell Keith, my goal is to live as long as mom and dad period. But yeah, it would not be good to not be able to move about and enjoy life.

    Thanks for the encouragement everyone!
